5.0 out of 5 stars Part Indiana Jones, part Sherlock Holmes!, 21 Feb 1997
By A Customer
Doc Ford, the hero of Randy White's mystery series, is a totally unique character in suspense fiction. At times he's a nerdish scientist, but when it matters, he can buckle the swash with the best of them. The supporting cast are all memorable and fully fleshed out. The fun is sitting back and watching them work through their adventures. "Sanibel Flats" is the first in the series and is the most action-oriented. - Steve Zeoli

4.0 out of 5 stars A fun romp, especially if you know the area, 26 Jul 2005
By G. Mott (UK) - See all my reviews

After a slightly hammy start the book soon gets into its stride and for those who know the Sanibel area there is the fun of guessing the locations. There are a few twists along the way and some of the book is set in Central America. While it isn't great literature it goes along at a fair lick and the hours will pass quickly. Great for reading while sitting on one of Sanibel's wonderful beaches.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is there a Doc Ford fan club?, 23 Jul 1997
By A Customer
After reading Captiva, I had to go out and buy the Doc Ford trilogy: Sanibel Flats, The Heat Islands and The Man Who Invented Florida. Within a week I absorbed the books. Is there a Doc Ford fan club?

This book evoked every emotion. I was relaxed and serene when on the beach. I was pumping adrenalin when with the "enemy". Read more
