I was looking for a memory card that would provide greater capacity than an 8GB card as I am now using RAW files in the camera - which of course take up twice the amount of storage per photograph than a high quality JPEG.
Information on the web suggested that cards of a greater capacity than 8GB MIGHT work but nothing told me definitively that any WOULD work. As I'm looking for a card that I can take into my next camera (D600 or D800 - I wish !!) 16GB was the minimum size I wanted to go for, but not wishing to waste money on a card that wouldn't work in my D80 I went for this 16GB card.
I'm delighted to say that the card works flawlessly in my D80, and when set to recording RAW only pictures, the LCD display shows a capacity of 1.2K photographs. Now even I can't run out of space on a holiday !!!!! When set to high quality JPEGs, the capacity is around 7.8K photographs - if anyone actually needs that many in one trip.
The speed of this card isn't noticeably quicker in camera (I manage 5 shots before the buffer is full at about 3 frames per second) before slowing to about 1 frame per second when it has to write to the card on the fly. But it is noticeably quicker when transferring images to my laptop - I've not made any actual measurements but it 'feels' quicker.
I'll be getting another one - not because I need the capacity, but just to ensure I don't put all my photographic eggs in one basket on a trip. That said, the card comes with a years subscription to the Sandisk recovery software as well - which thankfully I've not needed, but it's good to know its there in case of disasters.
