Reviews

In the season four opener of Sanctuary, Dr. Helen Magnus has pursued Adam Worth back to 1898 London and must now stop him from altering - and quite possibly completely destroying - the future. Back in present day, Hollow Earth Abnormals continue to reach the surface in droves as the remaining Sanctuary team scrambles to prevent all-out war. At the same time, they are desperate to find Magnus, who was last seen heading to the Hollow Earth city of Praxis just before it was decimated. Season four is a game changer for the Sanctuary, as their allies turn against them and they are forced to make their own rules. Season four also features the series first musical episode, Fugue . Music and lyrics co-written by Composer Andrew Lockington and Sanctuary s Creator / Executive Producer, Director and Writer, Damian Kindler.

First things first if you're a sanctuary fan then your guaranteed to enjoy this regardless of any other reviews. This series has all the elements that we have come to expect from the sanctuary team. Humor action and plenty of SF although the mood is a lot more sombre and there's less green screen environments. However this is a new sanctuary in tone and Plot. This is especially obvious in episode Fugue, that has a familiar singing based plot but without the Overt humor, its emotionally mature but in a good way, although Will can be a bit soppy sometimes. Not to say the series is all doom and gloom it's just matured form its days of having those nubbin things or the comic book superpower abnormal goo.

The series continues the hollow earth theme by having the hollow earth abnormal's come to the surface. Causing all sorts of panic with the sanctuary team narrowly avoiding a war with an overly aggressive general. they then have to deal with a abnormal insurgency that follows. Without giving too much away the governments of the world are now aware of the abnormal's and how dangerous they can be so decide to deal with them without the sanctuary i.e. FBI, NSA, etc hunting them on there own. So this leaves the sanctuary team cut off from there former political connections and the UN.

Now for my review. The series for some reason has gone back to the 13 episode structure. Not sure why but it doesn't seem to affect how the series progresses. There are a lot of good episodes including the return of the Kush (shape changing fear abnormal from Ep.5 Of series 1) and of course any episode with Nicola Tesla in it (Spoiler# Think are 51#). However it doesn't seem to me, to have the same grip as series 3 which I watched in the space of about a week.

If you enjoyed the last 3 seasons how could you not enjoy the fourth and final season. Even the musical episode was a surprise, I thought it would be a stinker but nope it worked for me. Sorry to see the series end. Another great sci-fi series cut too early.

Such a shame this was the last series. I thoroughly enjoyed every episode and, for me, the supporting cast's characters were just as memorable as the two 'leads' I particularly liked Henry Foss (Ryan Robbins) and Dr Nikola Tesla (Jonathon Young), who both injected humour so well that they generated genuine laugh out loud moments.

Sanctuary season 4 is a great season with lots of twists and turns. The time travelling storyline means that you can't assume anything.
The special effects are better and the show maintains it's sense of humour.

I knew this series had been ended as yet again the illogical way TV is assessed canned an entertaining series. Judging by the extra's the cast and crew were oblivious to the fact it was ending as seen with the 4400 which also was ended before the story was completed. With the amount of tat running as series whilst this was probably overdone with green screen effects it at least had some entertaining stories. It was not the best series in the world, for me that will always be the great and legendary pair of Farscape and modern version of Battlestar Galactica but it was nonetheless and entertaining romp.

Farewell sanctuary and Amanda Tapping's great legs  !!

I thought season 3 saw Sanctuary stepping into the big league, sadly season 4 see's it taking a step backwards, mainly due to the return to the thirteen episode format.Due to the show being so well wriiten, there was always more story than the episodes could handle, and its the same again.Things feel rushed, events move along at such a pace that you havnt got time to take everything in,and on a couple of occasions its like things arent even explained fully,in the mad dash towards each episodes conclusion. This season also splits up the Sanctuary team in almost every episode, which is not a good thing all the time, and one major character disappears for almost the entire run.For me it lost a little of its focus this time out,and this showed in the character interaction, which is a shame.

All this said however,Sanctuary is still one of the best shows out there, clever, intelligent and not afraid to take risks(a semi musical episode). The original concept pushed at the boundries, and thats something it still does, which is why I believe that even on its fourth season, and dispite the few mistakes,it still feels fresh and keeps you watching.Amanda Tapping once again holds everything together on screen, with a great turn as Dr Helen Magnus, and yes Jonathan Young returns as Nikola Tesla, and he still steals every scene he is in and gets all the best dialogue. So its such a shame that as of this moment it looks like there wont be a fifth season,as the Syfy channel seem to have pulled the plug on it.I think the powers that be at that station need to wake up and start treating the fans of their shows with a little more respect,Ive lost count of the number of great shows that they have killed off.Heres hoping that somehow Sanctuary finds a way of not being the latest one.

I have the utmost respect for Amanda Tapping and liked the idea behind this, unfortunately i purchased the first season based on over inflated and positive reviews on Amazon

I found that the story line was mostly poor, pretty basic and the attempt to create almost 90% of the film footage from CGI was very annoying. It felt like i was watching a very hammy video game...... A shame as the premise was good.
