Season three sees Sanctuary taking a big step forward, and for the most part being very successful.Instead of the previous two seasons 13 episode runs, this has 20 episodes, something which allows the writers to expand storylines and explore things further, bringing more depth to this seasons story arc. Before things always felt a little rushed,as though you were being hurried along and not allowed to take everything in,on the way to to grand finale.Though I will freely admit that a couple of episodes,I wont say which ones, did feel like they were there simply to pad out this new extended run,and brought nothing to the table. But apart from these couple of hiccups the story flows along nicely, and is well thought out and quite taught. What I have always liked about this programme,is that it doesnt write itself into a corner, and then invent some simple means of solving everything,it writes itself back out of it.But never in a 'Look at me arent I being clever' way.
As always the acting from the entire cast is first rate, dispite the occasional wandering,or over indulged, accent. There is also plenty of Jonathan Young as Nikola Tesla, whos presence always lifts any episode he appears in,and guarantees some sharp dialogue. This series looks better as well, and steps out of,whenever possible, the confines of a cgi generated world, something which I always believed limited it far too much.Season three sees Sanctuary setting itself up as a major league player, and staking a claim as a show to be taken seriously, and it does it very well.Giving you more than it has before, while leaving you with the impression that there is much more to come, and the desire to find out what.
The only thing I really didnt like about this makeover is the new themetune, the old one was atmospheric and moody, this new one sounds like a head on collision between Enya and the Smurfs.
