Video Description

Despite winning a Golden Globe for her composition and vocal work with Hans Zimmer on ‘Gladiator’, working with world class musicians as co-founder of iconic group Dead Can Dance and having her music featured in film soundtracks such as ‘The Insider’, ‘Mission Impossible 2’, ‘Ali’, ‘Heat’ and ‘Whale Rider’, Lisa Gerrard has always shied away from the public eye.

For the first time, this film presents an intimate and highly creative portrait of one of the most unique and intriguing vocalists in the world today. Featuring heartfelt and insightful interviews with Lisa Gerrard, colleagues and family, ‘Sanctuary: Lisa Gerrard’ helps us understand the emotions and motives of an artist who has captivated audiences for over twenty years. The film charts her life and career from humble origins, work with Dead Can Dance to working with some of the most powerful figures in Hollywood such as Ridley Scott, Russell Crowe and Michael Mann.

5.0 out of 5 stars Emotional journey, 18 Oct 2006
By Mr. B. Brooks - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I recently purchased the Sanctuary DVD 'Lisa Gerrard' - not really knowing much about her work apart from some of the beautiful music in films like Gladiator and Heat. The musical piece sung by Lisa in the Gladiator inspired me to find more about that enchanting, spiritual sounding voice.

The dvd takes you on a journey through Lisa Gerrards' life - but is filmed and edited with some intricate, creative style and for me, was very in-keeping with Lisa Gerrards' spiritual music and vocal stylings. This is not a normal off the shelf 'tell-all' documentary. The visual effects and editing are first class and at times aide in the mystique of Lisa Gerrard and her voice.

An excellent dvd experience and an enjoyable journey learning more about 'that previously unknown voice'!

5.0 out of 5 stars words are not enough, 13 Nov 2006
Normally don't write reviews. This however is a compelling look at one of the most profound, moving voice and musician in my living memory. The documentary is brilliantly made the colors the texture is great. The editing using and camera work open the vast expansive other world of Lisa gerrard. All the invitees make relevant and justified statements. Am really jealous of Clive collier would have loved to be the one to have made it? Then again he done a justifiable great documentary .sometimes words and language are not enough Lisa has always been able to transcend this and help you through her work.

A really worthwhile purchase

A truely beautiful, intimate and inspirational portrait on an exceptional artist of which I think we have don't have enough.

A mix between a hindesight on a long career as well as thoughts of the place of music and Lisa Gerrard in particular in today's world.

Very much worth seeing and an excellent addition to anyone's collection of quality DVD's.
