Fans of the much-loved 'Dave Godin's Deep Soul Treasures' series or Kent's other excellent compilations such as 'When A Man Cries' will also find this CD essential. The Kelly Brothers were a five piece (contrary to the photos) vocal group from Chicago who recorded in the South and this CD mainly covers their mid 60s sides cut for Sims in Nashville, with a few later Excello tracks. The Kellys had followed the well-worn road from church to nightclub in the early 60s but never quite lost their gospel roots; they did a wide variety of material but were at their best on southern soul ballads in the classic Nashville vein made famous by the likes of Percy Sledge, Joe Tex and Joe Simon. If you like any of those guys you'll love this.
