I wanted a large capacity usb pen and especially wanted a fast one for school (admin etc) checked on the internet and this Sandisk 32GB Ultra was supposed to be one of the fastest -transfering read and write.
It is actually the SLOWEST pen drive I have used in years.
I have about 5 other pen drives (none particularly espensive ranging from 1-8GB. The Sandisk 32GB Ultra is so slow it is unusable even transferring 1.5 gigs of data, to copy larger amounts of data (about 4 gigs) I would have to leave it copying overnight. I have tried it out on at least 4 different computers.
It is so painfully slow it is unusable.
The backup facility is a joke.
I will return it (I think have left it too late to return as I tried it out on a number of machines) I am not worried about getting the money back it is just useless and I would like the company to be aware of that.
I would strongly advise people to steer clear of this product.

Great concept but, alas, not a great product. I don't know whether or not it's a software conflict between the stick and my PC (XP SP3). I wouldn't think so because I've just formatted the HD and reinstalled everything from new, so the PC is as "lean" as it's going to get - no spyware, malware, viruses, programs running in the background etc.
My PC initially reads the memory stick through Windows Explorer via the "U3" program on the USB stick, and halfway through transferring several gbytes of data it stops copying, gives an error message ("incorrect parameters" blah blah) and, when you go back into "exploring" the stick it's as if all the files have disappeared. They haven't actually vanished it's just that the PC has mysteriously stopped 'reading' the stick.
It won't then allow you to 'safely' eject so you have to just remove it from the PC and plug it back in, then it tells you you have carried out an unsafe procedure! This happens with annoying regularity. In short, the PC regularly fails to 'read' the stick and ceases to function correctly, so it can't be relied upon to carry out simple backup tasks consistently. It works and then it doesn't. Duh!

The main feature is the backup facility. This worked easily. I found it quick to set-up and thereafter when synchronising the USB stick with my folders it would take just a minute or so to backup all the files.
The U3 software is very good and you can easily set-up password protection and a whole host of other things.
The main reason I wanted to write though is that I managed to put my USB stick through a 30C rinse in the washing machine and it survived no problems. So it's durable too.
