High quality in all respects - unreservedly recommended!,

This review is from: SanDisk Sansa Fuze 4GB MP3 Player with Radio and MicroSD/SDHC Slot - Black (Electronics)
I've been meaning to buy a decent MP3 player for months, and having just shelled out good money on getting my son's iPod Classic repaired after less than a year of use, decided to give this a try. As a Nikon professional camera user, I know and trust SanDisk products but was completely unprepared for the value the Fuze represents. It actually looks, feels and sounds like a quality piece of kit. The headphones provided are pretty dreadful, but then I was prepared to use my own anyway - standard 3.5mm jack so no issue there. The only 'charger' is the USB lead provided which doesn't bother me too much, though cheap mains adapters are available on e-Bay and I'll probably get one eventually.
The real plus points are: 1)the sound quality, which with decent headphones is outstanding. 2)the radio, which auto tunes according to geographical region and sets presets for the strongest available signals. Reception is surprisingly good - so far tried in the US and UK 3)Screen quality. Ignore what you might read elsewhere, this screen works well enough for me to look at synch'd images from my camera. Tiny, but good colour and clear. 4)Video - The wide screen trailer for the new Bond is currently impressing a few family members! Great sound and watchable. 5)Sound recording - I wasn't prepared for the quality of the internal mike and recording. Stick it in the middle of a conference table and record the meeting minutes live. Really quite impressive. 6) Sandisk website support. Downloading the latest firmware - advisable - was a doddle 7) Pre-loaded sampler of music. Now this may be unique to the US version which I bought but there were some great tracks pre-loaded on this thing. 'Umphrey's Mcgee', 'Wine, Women and Song' for a start. 8) Micro SD card support. Around £13 buys you a SanDisk 8Gb card which, when added, actually works as seamless additional storage. 9) No iTunes trap. Either use Windows explorer to drag and drop files across, or better still just let Windows Media Player synch the files for you All in all, an excellent player.

Very Impressed!,

Looks/Feel:
First things first, straight out of the box this little mp3 player looks stunning, the photo here fails to give it justice. It' a good weight in the hand, and the 'wheel' feels very solid Basic controls: The controls and menu browsing are beautiful in their simplicity, even people with a very limited knowledge of these gadgets (me, for example) need not even read the enclosed instructions. Connectivity: The interface with widows is excellent, with Vista recognising the Fuze straight away. The "drag & drop" method of storing your song information couldn't be easier, and it is very fast - it transferred around 2 gig of music files very very rapidly. Sound: The best part of this player (and of course the most important!) is the sound. I'll admit that on first listen I wasn't very impressed with the factory pre-sets, but there is an option to fully customize the sound using the custom equalizer setting. This proved excellent and I was able to attain (for me personally) the perfect sound.- FANTASTIC Screen: The screen is just the right size, it's very clear and the display is aesthetically pleasing. The photos supplied seem very sharp and well defined, but I am yet to try my own pictures in the device. Extras. The addition of FM radio is a very welcome feature. The signal is clear and tuning the radio is relativity simplistic. The supplied earphones are also good quality. Overall: Brilliant. I struggle to find fault with this lovely looking, affordable, good quality device. Well worth the money.

Fuze 4GB - or much bigger,
By Martin P (Devon) - See all my reviews
This review is from: SanDisk Sansa Fuze 4GB MP3 Player with Radio and MicroSD/SDHC Slot - Black (Electronics)
The fact that you can add a sd-hc card (and the prices are falling) is a real plus. The unit and the card work together seamlessly. You don't need WMP - just drag and drop. Fill the card up and add another; no more erasing at current prices. It plays OGG and FLAC. I use OGG a lot as my favourite internet radio streams in OGG and I can save the shows straight to the card. I have saved a few movie clips to it but don't really use it for that. Images, both still and vid, are good. If you want an mpeg player; look elsewhere. It crashed the first time I used it but seems to have sorted itself and has worked without a hitch for 3 months now. Loads of copying to card and player via the usb cable. The only let down is a non-standard connector; micro usb would have been better.
Sounds good, heavier than I anticipated but well put together. FM radio and voice recorder are there - should you want them.
