Pro-Level Performance for Multimedia, Gaming and More

The SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD is designed to give power gamers, developers and media professionals pro-level performance in the most demanding situations. nCache Pro Technology delivers sustainable performance with super-fast read and write speeds as well as long drive life. The SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD1 is the ideal choice for demanding professionals and enthusiasts who need ultra-fast results and effective multitasking for resource-intensive games and applications.

Designed to Keep Your Data Safe

Housed in a durable aluminium case, the SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD has been engineered to resist shocks and vibrations, preserve the integrity of your data and prevent data loss. Dynamic and static wear levelling help extend the life of the drive, while over-provisioning and over-clocking ensure consistent performance even under the heaviest workloads. Other features include bad block management, which prevents uncorrectable memory errors and thermal throttling, which protects critical drive components against extreme temperatures.

Pro-level speeds
Ultra-Fast Write Speeds and Safer Data with nCache Pro

The SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD contains nCache Pro Technology, which balances all-out speed with long drive life. A large, non-volatile write cache consolidates small writes to boost random write performance and long-term data endurance. Designed to mediate how modern-day operating systems and flash memory interoperate, the result is ultra-fast response times and seamless multitasking even in the most resource-intensive applications.

Quiet, Stable Operation and Low Power Consumption

Solid disk drives contain no moving parts, making them cooler and quieter and less likely to fail than traditional hard drives. SanDisk SSDs consume less power than standard 7,200 RPM hard drives2 so they're more energy-efficient and can provide longer laptop battery life. An SSD can extend the life of a laptop by up to 33 percent3.

Monitor the Health of Your SSD in Real Time

Thanks to S. M. A. R. T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) capabilities, this solid state drive can detect and report on various indicators of reliability and alert you of an impending drive failure while there is still time to take action.

Load and run in a heartbeat
Built for Blazing Speed and Endurance

The SanDisk Extreme Pro SSD delivers sustainable high performance, balancing super-fast read and write speeds with extended drive life. SanDisk nCache Pro Technology optimises speed and endurance and stores your data in the safest place.

While looking at this SSD from the outside, due to its dull exterior person may think that this drive isn't anything special. However, this offering from SanDisk is as good as it gets at the time of writing this review; it is marked improvement over the older SATA2 SSD. This SSD is fast performer at SATA3 (6G) speeds. You get read/write speeds for multitasking, gaming, or reassigning large files. The case is made from robust aluminium, and should protect against shocks and vibrations. A nice and useful touch is that the SATA connectors also give a nice reassuring *CLICK* and lock into place with SATA cables that have metal clasps. As with most SSDs you will have the added benefits of quick boot-ups and shutdowns compared to a mechanical drive. Also an SSD will, by and large be cooler, quieter, and more energy-efficient than traditional hard drives. The Performance for this drive is excellent, however, in order to exploit its performance advantages you will need to utilize a motherboard with SATA3 (6G) connectors, something in the range of Intel's native SATA3 controller (Z68/Z77/X79/Z87). Another good thing going for this drive is that it introduces innovations such as low latency write buffer called nCache that uses some of the spare area of the drive to boost performance. With this drive you get a good 5 year warranty - which should give some piece of mind, this then is SSD that would work well in refurbished old build PC, new build PC or NAS storage.

I am in the process of upgrading all the conventional hard drives i am currently using to the newer SSD models. I currently own three now, a high capacity, a mid capacity and this smaller capacity drive. This in my opinion is the perfect compromise in terms of capacity, price and performance. You can actually practaically utilise this as a main drive without having to compromise on capacity.

To install these is really no different to their equivalanent non SSD couterparts (same connectors etc) Speed wise I am not going to bore you with numbers, but believe me when I say replacing a mechanical drive with one of these super fast babies really will leave you thinking why didn't i upgrade sooner? Previously my laptop used to take around 150+ seconds to start up, with an SSD fitted I am looking at around 25 seconds (so nearly 10 times faster). Opening and closing applications documents etc are all in the blink of an eye! Any disk intensive task will be dramatically reduced. I am currently using this as an OS start up disk and the time it takes now to start up leaves the old drives in the dust.

In my opionion once you have used a SSD disk a conventional mechanical drive seems so s-l-o-w, and you wont want to go back. SSDs really are the future and now is perhaps the right time to invest as prices have come down and continue to do so, giving huge speed and performance advantages over their no SSD versions. Coupled with the backing of 10 year warranty (which really should outlast your drive) , offers excellent value.

This drive is like a breath of fresh air, my laptop had a 240gb HDD installed and this was partitioned into a 100/120gb split.

Everyone knows Windows 7 becomes very drive greedy as time goes by with updates being installed so my old drive was becoming full and cluttered with rubbish, whilst I do uninstall programs that are not used the space available was getting less and less, and as a result Windows was becoming slow and this was knocking onto general running of programs.

This SSD drive come as a 'bare bones' drive, no software is included but you can download tools for checking drive condition and drive tools.

My laptop came with Windows 7 installed, I did not have a back up disk. I did a little research on the internet before swapping drives, simply make a windows back up copy to an external HDD(this takes some time), and then you can use your old copy of Windows without the hassle of re-registering it.

This drive is FAST, so much quicker than my old mechanical HDD, Windows loads much quicker, programs load and run quicker. I have again partitioned this drive to an equal spilt, I store music and photos to one partition and use the other as my boot drive 'C'.

This drive looks well made and comes with a 10 year warranty, the SATA connector is a good tight fit that won't slip out of place easily, the drive does get warm in operation but not as warm as a mechanical HDD. A spacer is supplied as this drive is only 9mm thick.

A great drive that has given my laptop a new lease of life.

I don't have much experience of SSDs generally so I don't know how fast the SanDisk is compared to others on the market, so gamers and those interested in the ultimate performance may need to do some research. However I have used SanDisk storage cards in my cameras for years and have never had a problem with any of them so for me, they are a trusted brand.

I've been toying with replacing the hard drive on my aging Dell PC with an SSD for some time. The main problem has been that the Dell has two 1TB disks, one of which is obviously the boot drive. Although that drive wasn't full, replacing it with an SSD of less than half the size meant some decisions had to be made. Recently I replaced the hard drive on an equally old Vaio laptop with an SSD but that was easier since I had a loss less installed so I was able to restore an image onto the SSD quite easily.

To do the same with the Dell would have meant uninstalling half of my apps first. After putting off the decision for weeks, I decided to go the fresh install route. That meant basically not re-installing lots of stuff that I've collected over the years but rarely, if ever, used. Where possible, I installed apps on the physical hard disk so that only the files that get placed in the OS folders ended up on the SSD. Some apps I use a lot, like Photoshop, I kept on the SSD but with brushes, plugins etc. on the physical drive. In the end it took me most of the weekend to get everything how I like it.

The results are worth it. Where I used to switch the machine on, then go and make a drink while it booted, now it boots in under a minute. I could probably get it faster by disabling a few things that load at startup but I can tinker further as I go.
