Pro-Level Performance for Multimedia, Gaming and More

The SanDisk Extreme PRO SSD is designed to give power gamers, developers and media professionals pro-level performance in the most demanding situations. nCache PRO Technology delivers sustainable performance with super-fast read and write speeds as well as long drive life. The SanDisk Extreme PRO SSD1 is the ideal choice for demanding professionals and enthusiasts who need ultra-fast results and effective multitasking for resource-intensive games and applications.

Designed to Keep Your Data Safe

Housed in a durable aluminium case, the SanDisk Extreme PRO SSD has been engineered to resist shocks and vibrations, preserve the integrity of your data and prevent data loss. Dynamic and static wear levelling help extend the life of the drive, while over-provisioning and over-clocking ensure consistent performance even under the heaviest workloads. Other features include bad block management, which prevents uncorrectable memory errors and thermal throttling, which protects critical drive components against extreme temperatures.

Pro-level speeds
Ultra-Fast Write Speeds and Safer Data with nCache Pro

The SanDisk Extreme PRO SSD contains nCache PRO Technology, which balances all-out speed with long drive life. A large, non-volatile write cache consolidates small writes to boost random write performance and long-term data endurance. Designed to mediate how modern-day operating systems and flash memory interoperate, the result is ultra-fast response times and seamless multitasking even in the most resource-intensive applications.

Quiet, Stable Operation and Low Power Consumption

Solid disk drives contain no moving parts, making them cooler and quieter and less likely to fail than traditional hard drives. SanDisk SSDs consume less power than standard 7,200 RPM hard drives2 so they're more energy-efficient and can provide longer laptop battery life. An SSD can extend the life of a laptop by up to 33 percent3.

Always know what’s going on
Monitor the Health of Your SSD in Real Time

Thanks to S. M. A. R. T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology) capabilities, this solid state drive can detect and report on various indicators of reliability and alert you of an impending drive failure while there is still time to take action.

Load and run in a heartbeat
Built for Blazing Speed and Endurance

The SanDisk Extreme PRO SSD delivers sustainable high performance, balancing super-fast read and write speeds with extended drive life. SanDisk nCache PRO Technology optimises speed and endurance and stores your data in the safest place.

Consistent high performance
SSDs Provide a Boost for Any Computer

Solid state disk drives provide performance benefits for laptops, desktops and gaming consoles. With pro-level read and write speeds, the SanDisk Extreme PRO SSD delivers ultra-quick boot-up and boot-down sequences, fast application launches, seamless multitasking and more.

While looking at this SSD from the outside, due to its dull exterior person may think that this drive isn't anything special.

However, this offering from SanDisk is as good as it gets at the time of writing this review; it is marked improvement over the older SATA2 SSD. This SSD is fast performer at SATA3 (6G) speeds. You get read/write speeds for multitasking, gaming, or reassigning large files. The case is made from robust aluminium, and should protect against shocks and vibrations. A nice and useful touch is that the SATA connectors also give a nice reassuring *CLICK* and lock into place with SATA cables that have metal clasps. As with most SSDs you will have the added benefits of quick boot-ups and shutdowns compared to a mechanical drive. Also an SSD will, by and large be cooler, quieter, and more energy-efficient than traditional hard drives. The Performance for this drive is excellent, however, in order to exploit its performance advantages you will need to utilize a motherboard with SATA3 (6G) connectors, something in the range of Intel's native SATA3 controller (Z68/Z77/X79/Z87). Another good thing going for this drive is that it introduces innovations such as low latency write buffer called nCache that uses some of the spare area of the drive to boost performance.

With this drive you get a good 10 year warranty - which should give some piece of mind, this then is SSD that would work well in refurbished old build PC, new build PC or NAS storage.

One of the fastest SATA 3 SSDs currently available. The sequential speeds are as high as the SATA 3 interface will allow, and the random read/write performance values are among the best in class.
If you upgrade from a spinning platter based disk (traditional HDD), the difference will be night and day- your whole system will be much more responsive. It's also silent, which is another plus.
Of course, this is backwards compatible with SATA 2, though the performance will suffer- particularly the sequential speeds. Even if you are limited by this, it's a great investment and will still be far faster than any HDD.

I installed an SSD into my home PC for the first time last year, and it was a very worthwhile upgrade. As I play games on the machine, my preference is to install those games on the SSD with Windows for best performance. The trouble is, you need some space (I'm looking at you Titanfall with your 50GB of uncompressed audio) and that means your SSD is going to cost that bit more.

Even so, at (currently) £250, this SanDisk unit is a bit of a threat to your pocket. You are paying an awful lot more than some of its competitors for the supposed performance benefit. Fortunately, the drive mostly pulls it off, but if you are on a budget you may wish to look elsewhere if you can live with slightly downgraded speed.

Installing the drive into the SSD caddy in my PC was naturally pretty simple and it feels a sturdy drive. I used Macrium Reflect to clone my existing C: drive from my 'old' SSD and copy it onto the new one. It took 28 minutes to move over 220GB of data, I disconnected the old drive, booted from the SanDisk and hey presto, one instantly faster PC.

I've got the disk running over SATA III and performance is very good (it scores 7.9 in the Windows test which I doubt is of much comparable use, I've not tried any others as yet). SanDisk include a link to download some dashboard software, with which you can change a few settings and view various statistics relating to the SSD. This includes a 'life' meter, showing your drive's life as a percentage. I must admit I find this a little disconcerting, I appreciate that SSDs have a very finite life span and will only manage so many writes, but to see it tick away like that is a bit sad, really. I'm scared to check it.

Anyway, a great performer if you can afford it and highly recommended.

Installed it on my early 2011 Macbook Pro. Massive performance increase I must say. Previously it used to get stuck on spinning rainbow circle and took a lot of time in opening apps. Now it's just one click and opened.
Boot time used to be more than 1 minute. Now it's just 20 seconds(remember to reset PRAM and set start-up disk as OS X). Also, shut down time was many seconds, around 20 I guess. Now it's instant. Less than 2 seconds. I got it for £80, so it was a bargain. Better than Samsung 840 EVO, and almost the same as 840 PRO.

I think enough have already been said about the insanely fast Sandisk Extreme Pro and multiple benchmarks have proven it's superiority over most of the similairy priced SATA III SSD drives. So I won't bother with that. What I'd say is this: unless you are moving very large files on a regular basis between different SSDs; you may not notice much of a difference in comparison to a cheaper MX100. If you are moving from a mechanical disk or will be copying files to a "lesser" interface medium such as mechnical disks, USB, external drives, you may be better off with a cheaper model as you will be constrained by your write speed anyway. Benchmarks are synthetic and the actual advantages may not translate well in real life.
For me, moving from an older X25-M I have to say Windows boot up is not significantly faster; however transferring 30Gb+ files between SSDs is an absoloute God send. You'd have to do that on quite a regular basis to justify the cost and time savings. For my scenario, I felt that it's worth it. The 10 year warranty is an absoloute monster and is probably the best you'll get from any manfuacturer and is a testiment to their confidence in their QA. This is my 3rd SanDisk SSD purchase and I am yet to face any issues. Overall, a worthy purchase.
