4.0 out of 5 stars Bluesy but catchy and happy! 10 Aug 2002
Format:Audio CD
Jesse Fuller was a great one-man-band performer, accompanying himself with guitar, cymbals, harmonica, kazoo and a kind of toe-operated bass instrument that he invented himself and christened the "fotdella."

Don't make the mistake of thinking, though, that this makes his material naff! Clapton deemed "San Francisco Bay blues" a worthy inclusion on his "Unplugged" album.

The tunes on this CD are bluesy but catchy, with a happy feel to them. If you're fairly new to blues music, this title is ample proof that acoustic blues isn't all the discordant, inaccessible stuff that you thought.

As well as the title track, "Crazy about a woman" is a further highlight, as is "Midnight cold", but all the tracks deserve a good listening. A further bonus is the price - be honest, you can't go wrong!

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy listening acoustic blues 4 Feb 2010
Format:Audio CD
This album has been a firm favourite of mine since the 60s when I bought the LP.
No wailing screeching guitars here just honest down to earth performance. The album must have inspired many a busker in and around the big cities although JF performed at small parties etc complete with his famous Fotdella. The title track is by far the best known of JF's work but there are a number of charmers on this album - I particularly like Brownskin girl... It is rather endearing that he introduces most of the songs just as if it was one of his functions which is probably how it was recorded in the studio.
If you like big city electric blues Buddy Guy style then this album may not be for you. However I would urge anyone who is interested in blues per se to at least listen to this album.

Format:Audio CD
Jesse Fuller really captures the flavor of the Rural American spirit in his music. It is very mellow and has a lot of feeling to is. I recomend all of his albums highly

5.0 out of 5 stars Jesse Fuller: American Icon of Blues Music 24 July 1999
By mmueller@psnw.com - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Audio CD
Jesse Fuller was one of the most talented musicians in American history. His one-man band performances are legendary in blues music. Although he is famed for his "San Francisco Bay Blues," his other musical makings make this CD extremely worthy to any lover of blues. Try it and you, too, will become a Jesse Fuller fan!
