Okay let me start by saying- I love samurai anime. Everything about the samurai genre just screams awesome... unfortunatly this anime really doesnt scream anything worthwhile atall.

The setup for the story is quite interesting, with a legendary samurai known as demon eyes kyo becoming trapped in the body of the man who routed him in battle. Things all start out ok with this samurai being introduced. His personality is quite light hearted and he is essentially a comedy character, completely opposite to Kyo. The first time Kyo takes over our "hero"s body I actually thought hey... this could be a pretty awesome show! I expected some kind of constant inner struggle between our hero's two personalitys.... unfortunatly all hope of that is shattered as soon as Kyo takes controll again in the.... third? Episode maybe forth episode I dont remember (I only watched this yesterday by the way) anyways Kyo completely takes over from here on out with our light hearted protagonist seeming gone completely. I won't lie here... iv'e only watched 2 out of the 4 discs this boxset has to offer, maybe the story gets better? I doubt it. And even if it does improve.... story is only the begining of Deeper Kyos problems...

The animation in this show is awefull. even for a low budget title. Actually calling the animation awefull is giving it too much credit.... you see this show is largly made up of still images... yep thats right still images. I would understand if it was only the "action scenes" that couldnt be animated (I understand budget constraints) but unfortunatly even the slow scenes with only diolougue sometimes are left with no animation. Characters will often speak with no mouth movement whatsoever... which is just appaling.

Speaking of diologue.... voice acting.... the Japanese track sounds alright, as amatter of fact the voices are actually good-ish. But I must admit I have always prefered to watch anime dubbed, I find things more immersive this way as Im not constantly activly reading. (I know its down to personal preference really, so I'll stop talking about my preferences) ANYWAY the dubb is terrible. Absolute garbage. The worst thing I have ever heard. Several characters have issues with their accents which seem to inexplicably change from scene to scene and the voices that are consistant are consistantly overdramatic. NOT GOOD!

Character designs are alright. With our main protagonist looking like your standard anime hero. Some of the supporting characters have some very nice unique looks about them. Unfortunatly even still drawings of all the characters are hit and miss, with characters body proportions being all over the place its completely mood shattering.

Background music is fine if a little unremarkable. I would hardly describe any of it as memorable, but it isnt bad either.

The opening and ending themes for this show are quit devoid of any sort of charm, and the animation that accompanys them is bog standard.

As an extra on disc one you get an interview with the director.... this is probably the most interesting part of the whole package. I actually liked the director for this anime despite how rubbish it turned out and believe me it did turn out rubbish.

So there you have it.... Terrible animation, terrible dub, terrible pacing, terrible almost everything. I gave up halfway. Very unproffessional I know.... but I have better things to watch, and so do you. Avoid this anime like the plague.

Thanks for reading ^__^

Well the anime itself is brilliant storyline of a thousand man slayers spirit trapped in the body of an 'innocent' boy and so he awakes and take control of the body and pursues the body he lost in the battle long ago. To see how the story pans out, to see the imaginative storyline and excellent picture you should buy this item. All episodes are present so it is an actual complete collection unlike some other that claim to be. An excellent experience watching this anime and a purchase I was not disappointed with. A final note is although new, it looks and feels like a 20 year old masterpiece drawn similarly to the old style like "Akira" and the "Claymore" series.
