5.0 out of 5 stars My favourite samurai film ever, 22 Feb 2004
By A Customer
Firstly, Toshiro Mifune is one of the great actors of all time and undoubtedly the hardest man in cinema history.
Without giving much away, this is a bleak and brutal masterpiece with a story that matches anything by Shakespeare or Webster.
If you like kurosawa it goes without saying you should buy this.
If you like films you should buy this.

3.0 out of 5 stars Samurai Assassin, 11 Oct 2005
I found this to be an enjoyable movie with a good story, plenty of surprises and a final battle scene that describes the shear horror of fighting to the death. This battle scene had the same effect on my senses as did the knife fighting scene in Saving Private Ryan - truly disturbing.

The picture quality is not that good however, it looks like its just been copied from VHS - no loving restoration here (had the quality been better I would have given the film 4 stars). The only other complaint that I have is that sometimes the text (subtitles) disappears off of the screen before I have had chance to read it but I suppose that can't be helped.

If you can't watch a subtitled film with a lot of dialog this won't be for you but if you enjoy Samurai films and like your films to have a story with plenty of moral dilemmas then buy or rent this, you won't be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very under rated, 24 Jan 2004
I love the samurai and if you do to then this is a film for you. I could watch it over and over again.

2.0 out of 5 stars A bit pointless really
Being a big fan of Mifune, I bought this DVD imediatlly. However I found the movie very dissapointing. If you're expecting a classic like the 7 samurai, forget it. Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars No action
This is not a SAMURAI film. It is about an obscure conspiration. There is no action. Just a boring dialogue , that goes on and on
