After a lot of training and head-butting with a smarmy police captain, the squad gets assigned to transfer the head of a European crime cartel (Olivier Martinez) who's declared on television that he'll give $100 million to anyone who gets him out. Every scumbag in Los Angeles descends to claim the money, turning a routine transfer into a bullet-filled gauntlet. Despite some gaps in logic and a generic flavour, S.W.A.T. will satisfy most action-movie junkies. --Bret Fetzer

Good Action Film but predictable,
By Jay "The Amazon Reviewer" (Mauritius) - See all my reviews
This review is from: S.W.A.T [DVD] [2003] (DVD)
S.W.A.T. is a nothing more and nothing less than what you expect from it - good action film, the script is very predictable and full of cliches, but it has enough logic and good sense to avoid the ridicule. Acting is average good, effects are average good, and directing is average good - so what you get is an average good action film. Get your popcorn, biers as well if you are at home, sit back and relax.

Enjoyable action film,

I must admit that I'm not a big fan of action films, but I found S.W.A.T. enjoyable and entertaining. It is carried along well by engaging performances from Samuel L. Jackson and Colin Farrell. The film delivers plenty of highly charged action. This is nicely balanced with the time we spend getting to know the newly formed S.W.A.T. team, as we follow them through their training and ultimately as they work to accomplish their mission. Not a particularly thought provoking film but very watchable nonetheless.

Friday Night Action,

This review is from: S.W.a.T. [Superbit] [DVD] (DVD)
I missed this in the cinema but, being a lover of the great Samuel L, thought I'd give it a punt. Yes, it is formulaic. Yes, it is a colour by numbers. Yes, it is a "man picks team of misfits". BUT it does push all the right buttons.Colin Farrell is busted from the SWAT team by his commander, somewhat unfairly. He's rejected by other members but chooses to take his punishment and try to get in. Samuel L. is the "maverick" told to choose an elite team. The same commander hates him and wants him to fail but, you guessed, Sam proves him wrong. The plot is serviceable. The acting is, in some cases, phoned in but the action is thumping. Highly recommended.
