This laptop is fantastic , its fast and has everything you need . The fact that I can watch blu-ray dvds from my hdtv via a hdmi cable is great, picture quality is amazing even using the laptop screen as it has a 15.6 inch hd led screen. Its i3 processor is very fast and it also has a more than capable graphics card for casual to mainstream gamers in the Invidia Geforce 310m, laptops are not known to be too good when playing modern games but this handles them very well. Its pretty on the outside too , with its glossy red and black colouring. The only con is battery life , you only get about 3 hours, but I dont travel too far away from a mains supply so that dont bother me too much. All in all you cant go wrong with this beauty , if your pondering over buying this laptop, dont ! cuz its worth every penny. 5 stars

I like this laptop. It has all the power and memory I need and does what I want and expect it to do. It loses a star because it didn't come with a proper recovery disc, but from what I've heard a lot of manufacturers are going up this road nowadays. I made my own recovery discs which was pretty painless, but I would have still liked to have had a hard copy included with the laptop. Other than that it suits my purposes very well and it's not bad looking, either.

Very good product. No complaints. Just one concern - the battery life is not great. One full charge would last probably a couple of hours.

Wanted a new, fast laptop from which to run my new business. This machine ticked all the boxes and had favourable reviews. Performance is great. Keyboard is great, with good solid feel; I needed integrated numbers pad, which it has (keys are a little smaller than the main keyboard but not so small that it is a problem). Speakers are average but I knew that from the reviews and anyway they are fine for watching clips and TV progs (actually better than I was expecting), probably not great for movie soundtracks (not much bass). Only real negative is the memory card reader: I expected an all-in-one but it only has SD, and my Fuji camera uses XD. I should have noticed in the spec but it is not a big deal and I would have probably bought the machine even if I knew due to overall spec. This is the only reason I have given 4 stars instead of 5. Have not checked out Blu-Ray as yet. Screen is good but nothing special. Obviously plenty of storage space (500GB), I partitioned 250/250 when first booted (you have to decide there and then whether to do) so I could make a mirror image backup from one partition to the other. I retained the recovery partition also and made a full recovery backup to an external drive just to be on the safe side. All the ports you need, 4x USB2 (one of which doubles as e-SATA). Am not a gamer but pretty sure this would handle games no problem - Intel i3 processor and 4GB RAM seems more than enough. Good weight for carrying around. I keep it plugged in as much as possible but battery life seems OK, certainly compared to my previous Acer Aspire machine. Overall, very happy with the purchase.

Bought this laptop for my wife some time ago now, and chose the specification for what I would like in a laptop, as I also use it occasionally and I didn't want something that would seem slow compared to my quad core desktop PC. This machine delivers and although I didn't buy it intending to play games, I tried Half Life 2 anyway and it works well.
Does everything else that it was bought for flawlessly, including the wireless networking. We chose the Blu-Ray version so we could watch Blu-ray DVD's through HDMI and it plays them perfectly.
Very impressed with the build quality.

I purchased this Samsung R580 computer as a replacement for a 17" Acer Aspire that I purchased last year, for short of £1,200, within six months this had developed four faults, the first within a day of arrival, this meant I had to return this for repairs four times plus going back to factory settings five times and it has since taken now five months and the initial steps of court action to get all my money back. Word of advice don't touch the Acer, they are not built well.

Rant over, although, I was looking for a 17" model I went for this 15.6" because of the impressive spec, function wise it has everything I need, although to be honest USB 3.0 would have been nicer. But all in good time I guess.

I ordered this on Friday at 2.50pm, and it arrived on Saturday morning at 7.55am, for no additional money - how is that for service! When the large box arrived I was concerned they had somehow forgotten to actually pack the laptop, it is just so light, considering this is now my fifth laptop I have owned and given that this is a higher spec model it's smaller, lighter and more powerful than my previous models (evolution of the species). The colour is a deep red, crimson which you soon get used too and the screen is bright and easily watchable.

Most of all, I am impressed with the price, which is nearly half the price of my top end Acer Aspire I purchased last year, but not lacking in performance. I also liked the fact that the other item I ordered was packed in the same box. The charger is the lightest one I have ever owned, about the size of a box of 100 business cards, the chargers, typically from past experience, are the first things to wear out and a replacement is around £20. Sound wise the speakers do pump out the music....

My only concern was that five hours into setting up this laptop, the blu-ray disc drive failed I had to use System Restore, but touch wood no further issues.

Conclusions:

Plus points:- it's a nice compact computer that does what it says. Built in web cam and microphone means a headset is not required for Skype.

Negative points:- it could have done with USB 3.0 and battery life could be a little better.

Given this laptop doubles as a Blu-ray player in its spare time and a hard disc recorder/ player and music player on top of a computer - it represents great value.

And although I did not purchase this from Amazon an Iomega USB 3.0 1tb portable hard drive since I have a great deal of media content which all works fine.
