YP-P2 - One of the strongest choices for a high-end mp3 player, 2 April 2008
There are cheaper mp3 players out there, or with a better £/gb ratio, but frankly such equations are moot. This unit:
1) Looks good
2) Has top grade sound (optimised if you replace the supplied ear-phones)
3) Long battery life
4) Radio
5) Great quality video with wide-screen aspect ratio.
The touch screen takes a little getting used to, but isn't rocket science and it still gives me a small thrill to 'swipe to scroll' through menus and music lists - just always remember to put the lock on after using it to prevent accidental actions when in your pocket! What would be a welcome addition would be autolock, like you have with mobile phone keypads - C'mon Samsung, how about including that in your next firmware update!
Speaking about mobile phones, it has a couple of bluetooth modes, one of which lets you link your phone to it - you get an incoming call alert through the earphones if your phone rings, and more excitingly, you can answer the call from the YP-P2 too - it has a built in mic! You look weird speaking on it though - you either take out one earphone and hold the player to your head on that free side, hearing your calling through the remaining earphone, or hold the player up to your mouth like a microphone. Another bluetooth mode is for wireless headphones, but actually I've now bought bluetooth stereo speakers, and it works a treat -the player holds all the tunes, and is effectively a remote control as well - including volume.
The screen is very clear and good quality, though it seems a little dark with some videos. There is a little 'ghosting' on fast motion or high colour scenes (cartoons etc) but it's perfectly acceptable, and I didn't expect tv-grade quality.
There are a small number of niggles - the touchscreen sometimes seems to need some warming up, and sometimes will refuse to work for a few seconds. Volume levels for music and movies should be independently adjustable as videos tend to need a much higher volume, and then you switch back to music and boom you almost pop an eardrum. I've also got my full playlist on random play at the moment - it's around 400 songs - and yet I've noticed that the unit will repeat the same songs more frequently than you'll expect - it's hard to keep track of, but quite often I'll hear the same song 3 times or more, in say 2 days - as I'm listening for about an hour, hour + half tops per day, this is way too repetitive.
But the important thing is the sound and (if you are using it for movies too) video quality, and on both scores it's pretty darned top of the heap. Very much recommended.

YP-P2JAB 4GB MP3 Player, 2 Jan 2008
I received this Mp3 player for Christmas and I am well pleased, the features are quite superb, just plug into Windows Media Player and Sync your play lists, even for a duffer like me quite easy. I used the Samsung disk to down load pictures, again very easy but does tend to down load every picture still these are easily removed if required. When this was reviewed by the experts it was down graded on account of its lack of media files. This may well be true but as all I wanted was an MP3 player that was easy to use and didn't require a science degree the Samsung certainly fits the bill.
I recommend this product without hesitation a super piece of Kit.
For the money this is a no frills player with a great radio, fantastic 3 inch screen and fabulous music rendition.
