NOTE: This item is not compatible to MacBooks and Macbook Pros

For desktops and laptops
The new M.2 SSD format (previously known as NGFF - New Generation Form Factor) is compatible with the latest generation netbooks and notebooks containing a PCIe M.2 socket, such as the new Sony Vaio Pro.

To use this SSD in a desktop machine, you will need a free PCIe slot, and M2P4S M.2 (NGFF) PCIe base SSD to PCIe X4 Adapter. Note, system boot is not supported in a PC with the XP941 drive, but it works perfectly without drivers as a storage drive.

Rugged and reliable
With no moving parts, the Samsung XP941 provides extreme reliability and durability in adverse operating conditions, with a MTBF (Mean Time Between Failure) of 1,500,000 hours, and an operating tolerance between 0C and 70C temperatures. Combined with an AFR (Annual Failure Ratio) of just 0.6%, these features make the Samsung XP941 a dependable and high performance storage solution for your system.

Latest technology
The XP941 M.2 format SSD represents the very latest in ultra high performance storage, from Samsung - the world leader in advanced memory technology. It doubles the performance available from current generation 7mm, 9.5mm and mSATA format solid state drives, and delivers this in a package that takes up as little as 1/7th of the space.

Designed and Built by Samsung
Samsung SSDs are designed completely in-house, allowing exceptional quality control and engineering capabilities. Samsung also builds all of the main SSD components itself. The result is products with outstanding performance and reliability, designed to enhance your computing experience.

I bought this M.2 SSD to go in my New X99 system. The X99 motherboard allows me to boot off the XP941 and after running some Disk speed test i get an average of 1092 mb/s transfer rate.

The Drive is very very quick.....

Perfect for a boot drive

PCIe x4 is meant to nearly double the speed of SATA which seems to put limit to SSD speed. And this item (as far as I know) is the only M.2 PCIe x4 available to consumers. I know the true speed of PCIe x4 is not really realised by this as it still uses AHCI rather than NVMe (or thats what I read!) but its still very very fast. I can get to WIn7 log-on screen from boot in 5 or second.

But I am very worried about the temperature it gets up to. I have seen a youtube clip where ran test and the temperature of this went up to 113 degrees! I do not have temperature sensor for XP941 but the surrounding gets very hot! I will invest in some thermal gap fillers to help keep the temperature low as possible. I think it is best to avoid installing programs that uses file systems a lot like a game as this will increase the temperature of the drive and probably reduce its life expectancy.

If you are a patient type, maybe, its better to wait a bit to see what other competitors bring out (or what Samsung brings out) before investing in this. Price is quite high too since its quite new tech I guess, although the components it uses are pretty much same as other SSDs.
