I can understand why this product hasn't got many reviews, as most people are probably opting for the cheaper wall-mount options available. I considered doing the same, but ended up with this instead. So thought it would only be fair to the product to write about my experience.
After having just bought a Samsung 40D7000 (which, btw, I'm extremely satisfied with so far one week in) I thought I would only be paying it the aesthetic justice it deserves by hanging it on the wall.
But which wall mount to go for? There are many cheaper options available, which overall seem like ok alternatives although, based on the reviews, might include challenges such as having to shorten bolts and manually adjusting wire lengths. So while these cheaper options seem to work great for some people, I ended up feeling that having spent so much money on a TV, the £65 for the certified and branded (and great looking) Samsung wall mount rather than ~£15-20 for the alternatives was worth it. And I haven't regretted my decision!
Everything about this product is great and the installation process was SOOO easy. The wall mount on its own and with the TV installed on the wall looks awesome. Even the packaging of the wall mount looks great. The content of the box is laid out really user friendly with clear, visual instructions and clever numbering of each bag of fittings and screws for getting you going with the right option for your TV.
The package contains EVERYTHING you need, bar the tools. The only thing you need in order to get going is an electrical drill and a 6.5mm drill bit (for masonry, concrete or wooden walls) or 13mm for drywalls (because of the clever hollow wall anchor that's included in the package). And then of course the decision of where on the wall to put the TV. ...a spirit level is also good for when the TV is hanging on the wall, but isn't needed for the installation process itself, as only one hole in the wall is needed.
With the bolts and fittings included, you've got the option to go for a 15mm or 27mm spacing from the wall (i.e. extra spacers and bolts for the added distance option). I went for the slim edition which looks spot on for the D7000's narrow bezel. It is, however, worth noting that going for the 15mm option, the TV sits so close to the wall that there isn't enough room to operate the metal arm that, in theory, can hold the TV up when you play around with cables on the back. This is because the TV doesn't come far enough out from the wall at the bottom, before the top of the TV set bends into the wall. Not really a Samsung blunder but more pure physics when, as me, you want the TV as close to the wall as possible. In addition, this has turned out to be a non-issue though, as all cables and plugs on the TV are easily accessible and the TV so light that holding it out with one hand and working the cables with the other is straight forward.
Once you've decided on where to drill the hole, installation literally takes less than 15 minutes; one screw in the wall and four fittings on the back of the TV.
I would like to stress that one screw. In addition to looking great on the wall with just a small, Samsung labelled disc showing an added benefit (especially when living in rented space) is that this wall mount only requires a single 6.5mm hole in the wall (or 13mm for drywalls/plasterboard) - making it easy to repair the day the TV is to be removed.
The back of the wall-mounted disc has a clever, little cable locking mechanism/sub-disc that makes the TV less likely to move out of level when operating the cables and in general.
Small thing to note for those who go ahead and by this wall mount: The instructions say that the hole should be drilled 230mm above where you want the centre of the TV to be on the wall. However, I found that to be closer to 170mm above the centre (or, in case of the 40" D7000 screen, 100mm below the top edge of the TV set depending on how you measure out).
As mentioned by so many going for these picture-on-wall like mounts, it is a bit exciting to wake up in the morning and check whether the TV is still hanging. But I must say that it all looks very sturdy and pulling the TV out from the wall and playing around with the cables everything feels very strong and in place. I'm sure I'll grow to become less worried as time goes by.
Bottom line: If you've got space in the budget and would like complete piece of mind and ease of install, go ahead and get this wall mount for your Samsung TV!
There seem to be a bit of confusion online about which TV sets this wall mount fits with. It's VESA 200x200 compliant and it works for the following TV sets:
- 2011 Samsung LED TVs series D4000 and above, 32"-40"
- 2010 Samsung LED TVs series C4000 and above, 26"-37"
