Does the job. 21 Jun 2008
When the camcorder arrived I was pleasantly surprised at how small and lightweight it is. It is extremely simple to use although the battery life is terrible - about an hour. The zoom is good but the image shakes a lot when you have it on maximum zoom. The lens cover doesn't come attached with a string so I lost that on the day I got it.

The sound quality is fairly good but you can't really hear it if you play it back on the camcorder rather than a tv or laptop. The picture quality is good but filming in dark conditions doesn't produce a good picture.

Overall, I'd recommend this camcorder because it's value for money, lightweight and produces good videos. You will have to have a collection of spare batteries with you or alternatively take the charger with you.

The camera records and does what it's supposed to just fine but it doesn't come with a cable to connect it to a computer. You can't put the disk in and copy across because half the stuff on your camera goes missing! It has a tv connecter but if you want to edit it or show it using a computer you can't. Also, when i put the disks in i have to format them, fine. Except it's not fine because when i try and format it to 'video' setting it confuses the camera and it completly freezes up. i have to take the battery out and leave it alone for five minutes, and even then it's really slow and sluggish for the next half hour. It records like it's meant to but the only problem is, if you've recorded something interesting then you can't show it to other people except on the camera and the screen looks negative unless you're holding the camera and looking directly at it.

It's not the best digicam with mini-DVD functionality, but if you want the best, pay £500+.

I found it did everything it claimed to and more than I expected. Picture quality was excellent, even freeze frame was good. Snap shots were only 800x600 so only good for on screen vieweing on a PC - but if you want a STILL camera, don't buy this is, it's only an added feature - but as a VIDEO camera, the lens quality is ACE and the zoom very stable. Low light operation is fantastic too. I never use DVD-R or DVD+R, but DVD+RW and I use the digital playback option to my DVD RECORDER and the quality is exceptional. Get a 4GB card and put that inside and you can record (lower quality) to that as well the DVD.
I have had 5 Samsungs in my life, and I'd buy another one. Recommend this for mid-range operation.
