This review is from: Samsung UE40B8000 40-inch Widescreen Ultra Slim Full HD 1080p LED TV with Freeview - Black (Electronics)
Hello everyone,
This is my first flat panel TV and me and my wife are so excited about it. I had been wanting to get a Panasonic V10 plasma but energy consumption and the picture quality took priority. We mainly watch SKY so wanted a TV that would work well with SKY. Panasonic wasn't that impressive with standard definition in the shop but Samsung had had god reviews. so without seeing it for my self I ordered one. I have to admit, initially, I wasn't impressed with the picture straight out of the box- it was grainy and dark, unclear, etc. As it happens that Samsung's default settings are rather awful. You need to tweak with the settings to get the best out of it. See below for the settings I am currently using that made a hell of a difference: Picture mode: Standard Backlight: 4 you could go down to 3 or 2 if gaming Brightness: Try to keep it below 50 Contrast: Below 85 Sharpness: not above 65 Black Tone: Dark Dynamic Contrast: Low Flesh tone: Edge Enhancement: On Colour tone: Cool HDMI Black Level: Low Film Mode: Off - if youare watching movies then Auto1 200Hz Motion Plus: Clear if you choose the others than you get grainy picture above are the most important ones the rest are personal choice. Overall Standard definition via SKy I am still not convinced by or sure of. Don't get me wrong it is still the best picture I've seen compared to other LCDs but not as good as HD. HD picture is just breathtakingly beautiful, I just couldn't tell you how good it is. I've also bought Tacima 6 ways mains conditioner and XO HDMI Cable to treat my telly. I've ordered the tv from Let's go digital all the items including the TV were delivered the next day. I just couldn't believe it. Id you are with SKY, Virgin or any other St-top box don't forget to change the settings on the box so they are 1080i or p HD compatible. Hope this helps. Good luck.

I have just purchased this LED TV, with the Samsung HT BD7200 home cinema system, & have upgraded to Sky+HD.
This is my first flat screen TV & I was intending to buy an LCD, until I saw a similar model to this one in PC World. The picture quality was stunning. I also bought a Fisual Hollywood HDMI cable to link the BD7200 to the TV & a Fisual Pearl Digital Optical cable for the audio link between the BD7200 & the Sky+HD box. Now that the system is complete the results are exceptional. The picture quality is staggering, & even though I have yet to get any Blu-Ray discs, when I played one of my existing DVD's, "Ice Age 2", it was absolutely brilliant. I could not be more pleased with the system. It is pricey in comparison to the LCD's, but it is well worth it, so if you are looking to upgrade your TV you will not be disappointed with this one!!

Personally, I found this very easy to set up. Comes with all the bits you'd expect and very simple to attach the stand etc. There are a number of cable tidies including to try and hide away the numerous cables into the back of the tv and it leaves it looking superb. Personally I love the design and look even when it's off.
The picture is excellent, the best I've seen at present. I didn't HAVE to do any fine tuning with the display settings - although I later did. I did notice that the 200hz and motion plus stuff made some programs and images strange to watch. People seemed to move smooth and then jerky - sorry I can't really describe the effect very well. But it didn't bother me and is easy to change/stop. In reply to another review on here - it has 2 USB in sockets and allows you to play a variety of movie files direct from mass storage device. Also plays music and shows pictures of course. Or you can connect wireless to home network with an adaptor (sold separately) - which I'm thinking about doing at present. I'm very happy with my purchase. Excellent image. No faults at present if I find any i'll let you know.
