There's probably very little which can usefully be written about a monitor - other than to offer pointers to its quality and performance. I purchased this after my old 15" Dell square monitor died and when this arrived, the instant (and seemingly obvious) observation is that a 23" widescreen is much bigger. this is because they are now measured from corner to corner across the screen, making this difference greater than the mathematical 8 inches.

The Samsung quality is excellent and is beautifully sleek in appearance; the image quality is sharp and clear. It is perhaps a little over-bright, but easy to adjust using the controls on the panel on the right hand side.

The unit comes with a driver installation disc which (ironically) I was unable to install on my system for some reason, but I needn't have worried. Once I'd reset the computer for optimum performance, the issue of being unable to install the driver software was irrelevant. The 'instructions' are somewhat comical in that you are shown how to attach the stand, but given no information about the content of enclosed disc. Have no fears, it's pretty straight forward.

As I will be using this primarily for audio and video editing, the difference the larger screen makes is huge. Anyone using it for similar will instantly realise the benefits - I may only have had the unit for 48 hours, but it seems that in the minefield of possibilities, I've made an excellent choice.

I got two and I managed to catch a brief cheap period. 2 x 23@ monitors for under £250 cnan't be bad.

Overall I'm happy, hence the 4 stars. However, some issues prevent a fifth.

1: The mains cables supplied were not UK standard. I have tons of spares, but anyone who doesn't hoard cables like me could be in for a very frustrating time... Or a few minutes with a screwdriver, cable clippers and a spare plug.

2: One of the monitors was displaying a horizontal rippling effect, like interference on the horizontal hold. After swapping monitors and GFX card outputs I ascertained that the supplied cable was at fault. Indeed, replacing it with a different cable seems to have fixed the issue. The supplied cable seems to be OK serving a lower resolution monitor for a Mac.

3: A very slight molding issues where the bottom edge of the screen meets the plastic frame catches the light and makes the unit look cheap.

4: Talking of looking cheap, a gloss finish? Really? It's difficult to clean and keep dust free, the supplied cloth seems to scratch the surface and light scratches REALLY show.

Still, they WERE cheap I guess.

That said, all issues are secondary to the display quality. The display seems as bright as the LED Samsung displays we have at work. The size is a good trade-off between screen real-estate and squinting. Quality and definition are good on VGA cable and I haven't even tried a DVI connector yet.

All in all, good. I'd recommend 'em.

received 3 days before expected packaging was excellent. half of the notices that came with the monitor were in russian and the power lead was american style, no good for a british user! overall very happy with the product definitaly for those who prefer high screen resolution as at low resolutions the picture looks a bit blurry. very happy with the product. although it says full HD there is obviously no HDMI port on it but would recommend this monitor to people looking for a reasonable priced large monitor screen. crystal clear at high resolution although it does complain if you have the resolution set high than its "optimal".

I use to have two of these on my desk at work, I have since purchased 2 other samsungs for work / home, but on needing another one I have returned to this model. It's just perfect for a desktop, I think it is better than the other two mainly because of the control buttons, they are physical buttons and not touch screen, so you don't spend 5 minutes trying to turn the thing off. I do wish the buttons were on the front or somewhere where having multi monitors meant they were accessible, but you can't have everything can you.

Bought this as a Christmas present for my husband. It is for use with his pc as well as his Xbox. Well what can I say other than he is so pleased with it, I've barely seen him since Christmas day as his pc lives in the spare room!! Apparently he's said (on the rare occasion that I've seen him-mainly for meals!!) that the colour and contrast are amazing. It's easy to set up and generally as a whole looks really good! He really is very pleased with it.
Well what more can you ask? It was a really good price, does everything you expect, looks good and most importantly, gives me control over the entire lounge and tv in the evenings!! So if you're looking to get some much needed quiet time, I'd suggest you buy your loved one, one of these lovely monitors!!!
