Judging from reviews, this drive works great 99% of the time. But the 1% is pretty catastrophic.
I bought the drive just over a month ago to store all my photos, as my laptop was completely full. This was 80gb of photos from the last five years, including all the photos from my wedding and honeymoon. I'd always intended to back these photos up onto another hard drive, in case I lost the Samsung, and had it on my to-do list for this week.
Sadly, having plugged the hard drive in over the weekend, I was confronted with a nasty beeping/clicking noise, and a hard drive that refused to spin. Took it to my local computer store, but because it doesn't have a SATA drive, i'll need to send it off to a specialist - at about £300 for recovery.
I'm absolutely gutted, and can't believe that it could fail so quickly. To top it all off, Samsung/Seagate's warranty of course makes no provision for recovery - they charge you an arm and a leg, and then tell you that if you go to anyone cheaper, you'll void your warranty.
Must be a nice little money spinner.
