This notebook had a complete hard disk failure after three months. Having called them! I then had to drive an hour to the nearest repair centre to avoid adding 3-4 days onto the lost time, if they were to collect and deliver.
I collected 5 days later and it is still not working, due to an error at their repair centre.
They now advise me that they can't offer me a fast track solution to solve their error and I must either drive again to the service centre (in working hours of course because I apparently dont need to earn a living) or wait up to 2 working days for collection and still wait for the standard 5-7 days after that, before it would be shipped back.
The customer service staff are excellent at trying to word things as 'you not accepting their solution' rather than ever admitting that they created the situation and that it might be reasonable for them to respond with a little greater urgency and prioritise my repair.
A constant requoting of their policy can wear surprisingly thin, as a form of entertainment.
From this experience I consider Samsung to be a very poor company to deal with and will certainly share this view with anyone I think might want to hear it (in fact until I have cooled down I will probably share it with a few people who don't want to hear it!). I certainly won't be buying anything else from them.
Awful, awful, awful.

After just over six weeks EVERYTHING on hard disk was lost. Told to take the laptop in for repair but then told it needed special "software". After two weeks got back computer but software needed a complete clean reload. Latest problem is wireless not working. . . No confidence left in this product and Samsung's customer service is appaling. If this had been sorted out expediently I would be forgiving but this treatement by Samsung has caused huge disruption and taken huge amount of our time to accommodate their failure. Really disappointing service so avoid.

I have only had this laptop a few weeks and must say I am delighted with it. I needed to replace my old one, if only because the N & M keys had worn away. Whilst having the same screen size, this one is much thinner and lighter but best of all it has nearly a 6-hour battery life, which means I do not have to trail a charger and mains lead wherever I go. Better spec hard-drive and memory than the old one, which one expects. I forget exactly the cost, but there was a VAT back offer so I think a little above £500 net. It also starts up much more quickly - the old one took literally minutes - this takes a few seconds - but may be due to Windows 7 as against Vista. Or maybe my son ([...])didn't download some of the crap on my old machine. Whatever, it seems to me very good value as opposed to others with a similar screen size nearly double the price. Recommended for slim, light, adequate performance, good price.

My model is a slightly different version, with only the solid state drive - but the problems all seem to relate to the very poor standard of build of Samsung's laptops, and poor testing.

A few months after buying what was a top-of-the range and relatively expensive (£800+) Series 5, the letters started to wear off the keyboard. A year into using the machine, 8 have now disappeared completely.

A month after the warranty expired, the battery more or less ceased taking any charge, and could not be restored. A couple of months later, it failed altogether, and now the machine cannot even be disconnected for one second without it shutting down and having to be restarted. The power supply plug is ridiculously small, and very quickly became very loose in the socket - and hence now drops out of the machine all the time, causing it to shut down. The battery is not user-replaceable, and to get it done by an authorised Samsung repairer costs £130 and requires being without the machine for up to 5 working days. (In fact it is not too difficult to remove and replace the battery, which can be bought online for about £50, so long as a great deal of care is taken).

The connectivity of the machine is the worst I have had with any laptop for about 10 years. The wi-fi receiver is pathetic, and cannot pick up a signal in places that every other laptop that I am aware of is able to. I have to carry around a bag of adaptors and special leads, because the only cable connection choices on the machine are HDMI, USB and a single pin socket for sound. The sound quality of the built-in speakers is terrible.

The plastic edge of the casing is very fragile, and has chipped in a couple of places, leaving nasty sharp edges exactly where your hands rest or move near the keyboard.

All this within 18 months of buying the machine.

After this experience, I don't think I would ever buy a Samsung laptop again.

I don't have much experience with laptops and certainly would be no good writing a review on its performance etc etc but two things have really stuck out for me.

1. I have two cuts from the laptop, one of which is looking like it will scar, and expect more if I keep using it. The edge of the laptop's screen back, near the hinge, is ridiculously sharp - I have even showed it to other people who agree because I thought I was being ridiculous! The first time I slid the laptop through my hands into its case and received a deep cut. On getting the laptop out to write this review it happened again, only through general handling!

2. The microphone really is dreadful, but others on here have commented on that already so I won't go into detail.

I'm giving two stars because it is quick and very light and I enjoy using it - the keyboard is also very easy to adapt to. I am not sure if the edges on my particular item are due to fluke or if it is a wider design fault but if I could I would definitely exchange this for another laptop on that basis.
