Excellent drive 6 Aug 2010
By Craig R
Amazon Verified Purchase
Installed this last month and have had zero problems so far.
After installing, the firmware update took about 10 mins and so far I've had no blu rays fail to play. Have burned many discs and had zero failures, the lightscribe result also seems to be much better quality than my older DVD rewriter (also Samsung). Also regular DVDs played using the PowerDVD TrueTheater look fantastic and look as good as films broadcast on Sky HD

I was also going to buy PowerDVD 10 but now will not bother as the PowerDVD 8 supplied is the 6CH OEM version that has all features enabled (Dolby Digital, DTS, S/PDIF pass through, TrueTheater etc.).
My friend bought a LG blu ray drive recently and his bundled SW was the 2CH OEM version and he had to pay to upgrade to get his surround sound working (at a cost of [...])
Also included is Power2Go burning software and Labelling software.

If you did want to upgrade to PowerDVD 10 ultra 3D the link from the program itself let you upgrade for [...] (seems to detect it as PowerDVD 8 Ultra)

All in all this is an excellent drive and the software supplied makes it good value over the OEM version that is also available for a few pounds less.

graet bluray player 22 Jun 2010
By polly40
came this morning very quick delivery it took around 30 mins to install then the software took another 30 mins as it required updating via their website which makes me wonder why an updated version of it wasn't included but saying that the quality of the picture in full hd was amazing as was the sound at the price unless you want to burn bluray this in my op ion is a very good product

Very good product 8 Aug 2010
By hplusf
This unit replaces my LG blu-ray and its a big improvement, its much faster loading movies and is also quieter.
From a design point, there are two annoyances: the eject/activity button is big which is not bad but when it lights up can be distracting and the tray bezel is "mirror like".
From a software point, as mentioned by others, it would be much better if they provided a link to directly download the latest version instead of having to load a version from the disc and then upgrade (2 times in my case).

Useful for a while
It seems Samsung decided to abandon it and no longer provide firmwire updates, so I'm often left unable to playback new movies. Looks like I have to buy a new drive altogether. Read more

A very good BD player
This is my first BlueRay Disk player. Minus one star for the flickering bright blue light button on the front which is destructing in a dark room if in front of the viewer. Read more
