5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung Wave 2 (Quick Review) 6 Nov 2011
By C Kats
The Samsung wave 2 is one of the nicest phones out there. The LCD screen is big, super clear Hi-Def and no other can compare to that. The phone feels solid and certainly DOES NOT have cheap plastic parts spoiling the design. As for people saying it is not a smart phone, totally fulse. What Samsung have managed to do is actually create a fan base for the Bada OS and as more apps are created the bigger the popularity of the product becomes. There are indeed enough apps on the Bada to get one started and most of them have already been created for the iphone and android. Brilliant smart phone, as for Bada OS, watch this space.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great business phone 8 Aug 2012
I have had this phone for 10 months and it is the best phone I have had. Emails download quickly and easily via 3G or WiFi (Note BT-openzone is slow on this phone, but could be just the connection, as on own or Works WiFi it is very quick). The phone can be used through its 3G as mobile internet for your computer (this of course will cost depending on your allowance) - I use this 2-3 times a week when at customers working away from office and use email and internet with some document downloads (e.g. pdf from HSE website) and my allowance is 1GB and sufficient for me (NB This includes access to BBC Sport website daily for sports updates). Thus requirement for mobile internet dongle not required.

The screen is large and easy to use. The camera is OK for snaps and scenic photos anything with action and very low light are poor and video is possible but quality low (but it is phone first camera second).

Music play back is good with proper headphone jack (meaning any headphone with small jack can be used) and Radio is easy to set up and use (Apparently you can record radio, but never tried), I listen to Radio Silverstone when Motor Racing and get excellent signal and sound.

Apps are very limited compared to iphone and android, but some simple ones are here (unfortunately not google maps), this is due to using Samsungs own O.S. Bada version 1.2. The system is easy to use and quick. There is supposed to be an upgrade to Bada 2.0 (from 1.2), but so far this is not available for Wave II and from all indications wont be (this is a shame as apparently Google Maps will work with Bada 2.0).

Having owned this since Oct 2011 it is still the best phone around the £150 mark for my needs. As with all mobiles it really pays to shop around.

Boasting a stylish graphite effect metalised body and Gorilla glass screen the centrepiece of this phone is its 3.7" Super Clear LCD display. In line with superb outer appearance is the internal hardware, 1GHz single core and a powerful graphics processor, display 720p recordings with aplomb. Modern hardware + bada OS = very power efficient. The capacious 1500mAh battery lasts ages, especially when the 5% power throttling kicks in. The SIM is underneath the battery and difficult to remove which may be a hindrance for those who swap SIMs often.

Bada 2.0 was released Nov 2011 on the Samsung Wave 3 S 8600 metallic black. It is expected to trickle down to Wave 2 devices by Q2 2012. While superceded by the Wave 3, this still represents better value for money, partiuclarly if you can wait for the software update.

The phone, with bada 1.2, is already lightning fast but the web browser (Dolfin) fails to reflow (cf scale) text from standard web pages. bada 2.0 promises to fix this and increase browsing speeds. In the meantime I am using Opera Mini. The Dolfin browser is bada's biggest detractor and why it could not now command 5 stars at £150+.

Pro's:

+Good hardware package
+Build quality
+Battery life
+Quality, responsive 5MP, 720p camera
+Lots of brand new apps released

Con's:

-Price may vary
-Dolfin Browser (Bada 1.2)
-Samsung App store is small
-Camera lens flush with case- requires extra case

Samsung Wave 2 S8530 Sim Free Mobile Smart Phone - Black

Tried to buy this phone and could not find anywhere that had it for sale including Carphone Warehouse.Logged into Amazon and there it was, slightly dearer than the shops were advertising but I wanted this phone. It arrived very quickly, is very easy to use and has a great camera too. Not as technical as the newer versions but I only need my phone for calls, texting and photos. If this is all you mainly need yours for, but still want the option for more uses then I would recommend this phone.

3.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Phone, Terrible Apps 1 Aug 2012
Ill keep this short as I tend to ramble on with my reviews:

This phone is beautiful:

-The screen is nice and large and VERY clear
-It feels as if its a good quality phone with a brushed metal casing and a scratch proof AMOLED screen (I actually dropped mine onto the floor, not carpeted, and there wasnt a mark on the screen)
-It runs very smoothly, is very responsive and has no problem with any of the apps or software available for it...

And thats where the problem lies...

THERE ARE NO GOOD APPS FOR THIS PHONE!

If you want a phone simply to call and text and maybe browse the net or play a few games then consider this a 5 star phone. If you want skype, yahoo, google chrome, msn, angry birds or literally ANY of the apps that you have ever heard about then look elsewhere.

Samsung designed their own OS for the Wave and Wave II called Bada. The OS is not necessarily bad but it has no support whatsoever. Companies are not going to design versions of their software for an OS that only exists on 2 phones (Actually now 3 phones but ill get to that in a moment).

To add an extra nail into their coffin they then decided not to allow ANY Voip style software on the Bada system. This instantly rules out pretty much every PC based IM software not to mention the most popular ones for iOS or Android (ie Viber, WhatsApp, GroupMe). (For those who dont know, Voip is Voice Over Internet Protocol. Essentially making calls over the net). Im sure they intended to prevent people from using their phones to get free calls and texts a la Viber but they just shot themselves in the foot.

Apparently Bada 2.0 was meant to resolve all these issues and was to be available once the Wave III was released.
