The Samsung GT-S5600 touchscreen mobile, 17 Nov 2010
This review is from: Samsung S5600 Preston Sim Free Unlocked Mobile Phone
I own the "Samsung GT-S5600" touchscreen mobile phone and it is a cracker of a phone, once you get used with it. This was an upgrade from a Sony Ericsson W810i - and what a difference !!! ...
Dialling numbers is a whizzz and the touch screen automatically locks when you make a call, so that you don't accidently touch buttons you shouldn't. The writing of texts is superb and quicker and voice calls are strong and clear. The music player with the included earphones is brilliant and very loud. The camera, still photos and video is a lot sharper and clearer than the W810i and this really is a phone not to be missed.
I can highly recommend this phone to one and all, young and old. The down/up loading of picures etc to pc from phone and visa-versa is simple and straight forward and while it is working it is also charging the battery via the usb cable connection. The software for the pc is simple to install and works 100% every time.
I have never had any problems and would buy same phone again. The inclusion of a small (very) micro sd card slot internally allows the user to install a micro memory card - I have 2GB - and this allows me to capture around 1000 photos. Fab or what?
As I say - Highly recommended - get one today...

Disappointing!!, 23 Aug 2010
This review is from: Samsung S5600 Preston Sim Free Unlocked Mobile Phone
This phone (Samsung s5600) is terrible!! I wish I could give it half a star or no star at all.
The touch screen is not calibrated and you end up pressing things you never intended to press. I blocked out my voicemail by entering the PIN incorrectly 3 times, not because I didn't know it, but because the wrong numbers kept coming up even though i tried to press the correct numbers.
Sending a text message is complicated..... apart from struggling to get the silly phone to recognise which buttons you are pressing, the space button and the cancel button are placed in an akward position, not at the bottom as you would expect.
When you make a call, the screen locks up after 3 seconds or so. If you unlock it, it locks up again, this makes it difficult to use the in call functions.
The widget thingies are big and you can only fit a maximum of four on a screen....... there is no way to re-size them to make them smaller.
I had an LG Viewty before I got this phone. I didnt like that one either, but it was MILES, MILES better than this one. It was so much better than this one that I am thinking of going to buy it again and ditching this stupid Samsung S5600!!
The only good thing about the samsung is that it appears to have a good battery life, and if you use proper headphones, the music player is quite good, but in my opinion, these are not worth the hassle of this phone!!
I am so disappointed in Samsung. This is the 2nd samsung I have had and the first was rubbish as well!!
UPDATE!!!!
OK, this is an update 3 days after the above review.
I know I slated the phone, but it is not that bad really once you kind of get used to it. I gave the phone a 1 star, but I will upgrade this to a 3 star. The screen is quite responsive, and once you get used to it, you no longer open applications by mistake, although it is still quite easy to press the wrong 'buttons' when typing a text message or a phone number, but this is much much better than when I first got it.
I did find a surprise. You can view pictures you take simply by slanting the phone, then the pictures move through like they are falling off the phone. The pics also move from portrait to landscape depending on how you hold the phone.
The call quality is clear..... I know you would expect that from a phone, but given my initial trepidations about this phone, I feel it is worth mentioning this.
The phone has a thing where if you have dialled a number before, it brings it up as an option even where you have not saved the number which is quite useful for a new phone before you transfer your numbers.
You can set it up so it requests a PIN before it opens your SMS inbox or contacts or pretty much anything you save on the phone which is something I have not had on my previous phones.
Further Update
The damned thing does not have voice dialing. I have a bluetooth handsfree kit in my car, and I cannot make a call unless I manually dial the number/press the call key which is a bugger!!
