Samsung S24A350H 24 inch Widescreen LED monitor (MEGA DCR, 1920 x 1080 Full HD, 2ms, HDMI/VGA) - Gloss Black

As a heads up, if you want technical details about this monitor, you won't find them in this review.

I got this screen because my first choice screen was out of stock, and hadn't come back into stock for 2 weeks. I guess you could call it fate, because since getting this screen I have never looked back, literally, I have been staring at it for hours a day. I'm only 17 and had to wash dishes in a smouldering hot cafe for weeks, if not months to afford this, and it is worth every single penny.

It's vibrant colours shine through most eloquently, and even the much revered dark colours stand out thanks to the powerful LED screen. It runs smoothly on my Radeon HD 5770 GPU through an HDMI cable (which doesn't come with the monitor, but a VGA does the trick just as well), and is perfect for gaming (2 feet away), films (6-10 feet away) and even working (if you REALLY have to).

As for the build, it is a sleek black frame with pressure sensitive buttons (so no unsightly chunks sticking out) and a nice clear glass like trimming. The stand is sturdy, though does protrude a fair bit (maybe 3 inches), so if you're really strapped for desk space, this may not be for you.

It is easily assembled, with the screen just clicking into place with the stand, and very obvious and easily accessible sockets for both HDMI and VGA cables, so if you wanted, you could run an Xbox 360/PS3 through the screen, and switch between the two with an effortless touch of a button.

The only thing in my opinion that should deter anyone from this monitor is if they are going to simply use it for working, because as strange as it sounds, it does feel more like a media monitor than a documents monitor, i.e. it's more suited to BluRays than Powerpoints.

Overall this monitor is fantastic and it's just such a shame there are so few professional reviews of it because they'd probably all be saying the same thing as I am, that this monitor, in my opinion, has the best quality to price to size ratio on the market today, bar none.

The SA350 and SA550 series monitors didn't seem to receive anywhere near the attention of Samsung's 2011 3D range (SA750 and SA950) and due to poor press availability in the UK reviews are few and far between. The S24A350H is, subjectively speaking, a nice looking monitor - but it isn't all about the looks. Performance is also very good with strong contrast (central readings of around 1050 cd/m2 after calibration) and well-balanced colours out of the box in 'Gamma mode 3'. Samsung also seems to know what they are doing when it comes to response time algorithms. Obviously it is rated at 2ms, which doesn't tell you an awful lot as most pixel transitions will be considerably slower than this. Nonetheless, this figure does indicate the use of grey to grey acceleration to try to speed up certain pixel transitions and reduce trailing. Samsung achieves this to good effect without any unwanted negative trailing, halos or other 'overshoot' related artifacts. Input lag is also very low and infact imperceivable to most mortals (most probably under half a frame or <8ms).

This isn't one for colour-critical applications as the panel type itself limits the colour consistency. A 24" TN panel, no matter how good, displays slightly different shades of a given colour depending on the position on the screen and the viewers position. Ergonomic adjustability is fairly limited, as is expected from an 'entertainment monitor' in this price range, but you can tilt the screen slightly if you are firm enough. A final negative point is the inclusion of dual HDMI ports instead of a DVI port. Some GPUs treat anything connected to them by HDMI as HDTVs and there can be some minor (correctable) issues that need to be addressed related to overscan/underscan. Some monitors will also appear with washed out colour and black level problems when connected to such devices but the S24A350H doesn't seem to suffer from this.

Overall the S24A350H is a very competent monitor at a competitive price (on Amazon, at least).

If you spend your life in front of a computer a large wide screen monitor is essential. I am delighted in this Samsung which was easy to use - you connect it and it works - which is the way all IT kit should be! Sooo much better looking at a decent sized screen. Emails readable, presentations - allows viewing of many slides, easy to read documents. Robustly made, good aesthetics, stand a reasonable height. Worth every penny and I paid for it myself, work wouldn't. Thoroughly recommend this Samsung monitor.
