Samsung RV511 15.6 inch Laptop (Intel Pentium Dual Core P6200 2.0GHz, 4Gb, 500Gb, DVD SuperMulti DL, WLAN, Webcam, BT, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit) - Black/Silver

I've had this laptop for about 2 weeks now, a couple of hours of use every day with no obvious faults, so far so good! When I purchased this laptop it was being sold by Amazon, though the current seller has it at around the same price. First impressions were very good, well packaged and included a windows recovery disc (Having read reviews about other laptops, these seem to be quite rare!). Box also included the power cord (length of about 2 metres) and the paperwork, such as the quick start guide, warranty information and so on. On first start up, your prompted create two partitions for the hard drive, one as a main section, where windows, programmes and your files will be, the other as a backup. I'd advise making the backup partition (D:) between 40GB and 60GB.
Aesthetically the laptop is gorgeous, only glossy sections are the black strip around the keyboard, the two silver track pad buttons and the screen. Don't be put off by the glossy screen, finger prints wipe off easily with a microfiber cloth, and it is easy enough to view as long as it's not in direct light. Everything else has a matte/metallic silver finish to it, with the lid having a parallel wavy effect on it, similar to the feel of those plastic 3D images you tilt to show a different picture. The track pad is the same matte finish as the rest of the laptop, only slightly sunk to give it a border. The underside of the laptop is your usual black plastic, nothing special there. The laptop feels well built, just take care when shutting the screen, it tends to want to snap shut about an inch from the base.
The keyboard has a great feel to it, much better than the old Toshiba I used to use. Number pad on the right is an added bonus without making the keyboard too small to use. Each key is individually spaced as well, so no problems hitting the wrong key so far. Track pad works well, nice and accurate. Directly beneath the track pad are the left and right click buttons, separate from each other with a shiny chrome effect finish. Top right above the keyboard is the power button which has a blue glow around it when in use, with the two speakers to the left of that. Bottom left of the keyboard is the microphone.
The only issue I have with the design of this laptop is the positioning of the vents. My old Toshiba had the vent right on the side, this one has the vent half on the side and half underneath, so does tend to get a bit warm when on my lap. Reposition it slightly and it's fine though.
Performance wise it's fantastic, hasn't slowed down once whilst I've been using it. It takes a second to load up some of the bigger programmes like iTunes, but nothing out of the ordinary. Plus the RAM seems easily upgradable, with one plastic cover over the HDD and RAM. I haven't had a chance to test any games on it yet, although don't expect it to be able to run any of the Call of Duty games or anything similar flawlessly. A system analyser I use advises the graphics (integrated into the processor I think) just isn't powerful enough for these games. Wi-Fi connection is a breeze, although there's no obvious switch or application to activate Bluetooth, just hold FN & F9 and it should boot up a little application to flick Wi-Fi and Bluetooth on and off. I tested the Wi-Fi connection with a friends Samsung Netbook, with a noticeable difference in how quickly the laptop loaded pages and videos. Battery is reasonable, able to squeeze 3 hours from it at 80% charge (Samsung have an application that stops charging at 80% to avoid damaging the battery, useful if you leave it plugged in a lot). Speakers are acceptable, music seems a little flat though, but heard worse! Can't comment on the webcam, as I've only tested it the once to check it works, but seemed of decent enough quality.
Overall, I'd say it is a fantastic laptop for the price, just so long as you don't go expecting it to be on par with desktops and much more expensive laptops gaming wise. Definitely recommended!

Aesthetically very pleasing. Functionally excellent in all aspects. As laptops go the mouse pad is particularly good; sensitive and very accurate once you have personalized it to your own requirements. The keyboard is well laid-out (even for sausage fingers) with a separate numeric keypad. A nippy higher end i3 processor, Windows7 and a more than adequate 3GB of memory make this an excellent choice for the vast majority of home users i.e. internet/home-office/photo/video editing etc; It would be very churlish to criticize any aspect of this laptop for the price I paid; (Amazon don't encourage `reviewers' to show the cost in print).
I've only had this for a week but I have already given it a fair old `battering' and it has performed flawlessly - it actually belongs to my 23 year old daughter. All round an excellent `value for money' item with free delivery from Amazon.

This is my 3rd Samsung laptop and does not dissapoint at all. This laptop is amazing for the price; it has everything you could want, here are some examples; Windows 7, a Intel i3 processor, a reasonable amount of RAM and hard drive space. What more could you want? I recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a decent spec laptop.
