5.0 out of 5 stars NC140 works as advertised. 4 Nov 2009
This machine was purchased after I lost my Asus eee. The main use for it is travelling on long haul flights so battery life is important and I'm happy to say that I can use it for at least 7 hours watching videos. The performance is adequate for the task, I was originally getting glitches in playback of DIVX files, but this was resolved after I removed the Windows Indexing facility. I've replaced it with Google desktop search which is much kinder to the hard drive and no more glitches as a result.

I'm planning to upgrade the memory to 2GB which I believe will further improve performance and will be a good investment of £30, but overall a great little PC, I would rate this very highly, the only real downside is the speakers which are not very powerful, even a cheap pair of headphones is a vast improvement, and on a flight I use headphones anyway. The amplifier output is very good and you only need the volume up at about 25%.

3.0 out of 5 stars NP-N140 wifi is questionable 30 Oct 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
This netbook was purchased to replace an earlier model that had been stolen, and which would get a 5-star rating. Unfortunately, the NP-N140 is constantly dropping the wifi connection, and even with all the latest updates to the drivers applied, it still does not offer the solid connection that I would expect. I also strongly recommend the installation of a memory upgrade to improve performance.

4.0 out of 5 stars great but... 10 Feb 2010
I bought this laptop after reading a review for it on the gadget show and while I think it's a good laptop the wireless connection is iffy (keeps losing connectivity) and it DOES NOT come with 1 year trial of microsoft. I informed Amazon of this today but I see it is still advertised as having it. Samsung confirmed to me that since Nov 09 Microsoft have changed it from 1 year to 60 days trial (even though the icon on my desktop still says 1 year) so be aware of this if you are buying it for the 'free' software. Apart from that it is a good looking laptop, very light and portable. Does the job.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb piece of electronics 16 Dec 2009
I was looking forward to getting hands on this netbook. It was well spent money. The battery life is amazing, the full sized keyboard with big buttons makes the typing comfortable. The integrated peripherals work well, didn't encounter many problems. Also you should get rid of all the preloaded unnecessary software as it slows down the netbook. Get an upgrade of 2GB ram. The build quality is a little worse than the NC10, for one thing the display is 0.1' smaller as the frame around sides of the screen is wider than the NC10. Anyway, a great choice for a netbook. But if you have a NC10, you don't need an upgrade to this model.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another great little Samsung Netbook 13 Mar 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
I am writing this on my new Samsung N140 from Amazon.

My first experience with Samsungs was at christmas when I got my wife a Samsung N110, the slightly enhanced big brother of the famous N10 which is still (at the time of writing) the only netbook to recieve a 10/10 from trusted reviews.

The N140 is just as good and adds the bonus of the sleep and charge USB and the slightly larger keyboard and trackpad with awesome battery life!

I think this keyboard is the best one out there, and I dont like the new style one on the n150... i just feel the keys will come off (i'm sure they wont!)

The track pad is very good and has some extra functionality (you can zoom in and out and scroll using 2 fingers) which is useful once you realise you can do it!

It hasn't been charged since i got it set up (it takes a couple of hours to delete all the gunk they insist on installing - some of the Samsung utilities are very good however) and I have been using it for maybe 2/3 hours a day and I have still have 31% battery left and that is on perhaps 50% power saving settings! Going back to those utilities, there is one which manages charging and only charges the battery up to 80% to prolong it's life... very clever!

I also like the samung back up software which backs up your data to a 'secure' partition.

I havent got the 2gb upgrade yet but think I will as it did start to slow down on a word doc which contained some graphics.

Other good points include the very smart zip up carry case which comes supplied and the non glossy finish of the white version which means no finger print marks and makes it stand out a bit from the crowd.

4.0 out of 5 stars Looks great, good for basic stuff... 2 Oct 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
Just got it today, and I have to say it looks good. Windows update seems to take a while and it is generally a little bit on the slow side, but otherwise... for what it is, very good.

Battery life seems good, too, although only time will tell if it remains the same.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great portable computing 18 Feb 2010
Having become a real fan of netbooks as a result of carrying a Samsung N110 around the USA on an extended business trip and vacation, my wife decided she wanted one of her own. The N140 in white was on special so we purchased one. I'm now envious because the (slight) design changes are definitely an improvement over my N110 - although the major reasons for buying Samsung still remain too - build quality, price, keyboard, screen clarity.
The only downside is that we are now a 4 PC household - so I need to invest in more external storage, network attached printer....
