5.0 out of 5 stars Best camera in 200 price range 27 Mar 2012
    By Oliver! TOP 1000 REVIEWER
You might know that camera users are like football fans, with rivalry Canon vs Nikon vs.... going on for years. I am coming from a Fiji camp (happy user for 10 years of different models) so trying Samsung was not without hesitations!

Yet I had to replace my ageing Fuji s20 Pro which was a great camera at the time but is very outdated now, and new Fuji models (x100, x1 Pro) are great (imho) but well over my budget. I was going to wait till the price for any of the above comes down so that I could buy it, but then saw this Samsung at unbelievably low price, and I bought it right away.

It has APS-C sensor which is about 10 times larger than best point-and-shoot cameras have, and about 20% larger than M4/3 cameras. As you can imagine bigger sensor produces much more detailed and generally better pictures than smaller sensors. For me coming from an older model it was like night and day - and my Fuii was quite good camera!

Even if you stay in P&S mode ("Smart") where you don't need to do anything, just press the button, images are crisp, detailed, and with good colours. Autofocus is quite fast and accurate, which is important for photographing children (always running!). Start-up time and shooting speed are great too, no more waiting to make a shot. Menu is quite extensive, but very intuitive, which is the more important as user manual is very limited to say the least. AMOLED screen is a joy to use both for menu set up and taking pictures - very bright and clear even at sunlight. I am still learning to use the advanced settings and modes, but camera is very forgiving to my not always best settings. And I can always let it drive with Smart mode which works every time!

Camera is very light and small so can be carried anywhere.

Very, very good camera. Very handy, great images, great colours. And at the current price, the best money can buy. I have been looking for such for a very long time.
I use a range of cameras (high end SLR and several pocket cameras), but this is the most useful of all. I can easily carry it around, the images are very close to what I would get from the SLR, the colours are simply great.
As a non-professional user I can't go into the image details, so I would just leave point to the more knowledgeable reviewers.
It would be best if I could give my point of view - that of a daily user. As a dad I want to make the best possible family photos and be ready around the clock. Well the pocket camera size is the best to carry around, but the quality of the images is not really what I want. The image quality is the reason why the SLR camera joined our pocket cameras collection and we indeed make excellent images with it. But try taking it around on top of the baby staff. Needs an extra bag for transport, it is bulky and demanding item, dangling from my neck, getting caught in the baby bags.
This is why this camera is so useful. Small body with a high-quality sensor - it is a handy body delivering great images. At this price I can afford to carry it in my pocket and in the baby bag.
Two problems. First the original lens (20-50 mm) is too bulky for your pocket. It would be very nice to use it with the smaller 30mm pancake. It is not sold with the smaller and I had to buy it separately which is an extra cost. Second - it does not have an inbuilt flash. The camera would not need the flash in most cases (outdoors, well illuminated rooms) but when the normal quality is desired indoors, a flash is needed. The external flash is good, but bulky.
A point to Samsung -carry on, this is THE CAMERA for me, but please build in a flash and give the users an option to buy it only with the 30mm lens. Your next model NS200 does not have a flash again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great value for money 2 May 2011
Excellent camera for someone making the jump from a compact. Easy to use in Smart mode and with lots of room to try out more complicated things. The difference the lens makes is amazing and you can easily upgrade with lenses, a flash gun etc. if you want to.

Pictures are comparable to my Nikon which cost three times as much! Highly recommended camera, you won't be disappointed. Only weak spot is image stabilisation.

    5.0 out of 5 stars Samsung NX 100 1 July 2011
    By zanger
Not going to go on about it too much, but this camera is superb....having had all sorts of point and shoot cameras these last few years and all have been very disappointing in image quality.Because of their small sensors no matter how you dress up these miriad of compacts on the market with fancy names and features, you just can't account for sensor size and this NX 100 has the DSLR size sensor incorporated in a small light easy to carry body.It feels quality in the hand and is so easy to use. This will point and shoot with ease but if you want manual features it gives that as well.
Only gripe i've got is that if you try and update firmware its chances of succeding are very low and you will 'brick it' just like with their mobile phones...why do samsung put out firmware upgrades and then you have to keep your fingers crossed about it working.Needless to say i will not be attempting it as it works perfectly as it is.
I am very pleased with this camera and it was a bargain on Amazon.

Very good pictures in reasonable light but as is to be expected suffered from lack of flash in poor light and indoors, even with F:2 lens. The need for additional flash and lenses made this the worst of both worlds, i.e too big to be used like a compact but not as good results as a DSLR (which all have built in flashes nowadays)
