Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

Meet the Samsung NX10, named Advanced Compact System Camera of the Year at the 2011 Amateur Photography Awards.

Create the world as you imagine it, with the Samsung NX10
Using a 14.6 megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor, fast and precise AF, and a 3.0" AMOLED display, life can be created just as you imagine it.

The Samsung NX10 is the world's first interchangeable lens camera with an APS-C sized sensor offering the performance and image quality of a DSLR, plus the portability, convenience and ease of use of a compact camera. The Samsung NX10 offers an incredible 14.6 megapixels and a super large APS-C size CMOS sensor, which reproduces rich and natural colours and expresses clear images. Innovatively designed without a mirror box and pentaprism, the Samsung NX10 is compact and lightweight.

With the NX10's AF function, you can capture life's most fleeting moments instantly ... before they pass you by. You'll always be prepared to take great photos to share with family and friends.

APS-C Sensor
Super large image sensor offers utmost image quality and rich natural colours.

Equipped with super large APS-C size CMOS sensor, the Samsung NX10 reproduces rich and natural colours and expresses clear images. Particularly, the Samsung NX10 image sensor expresses crisp and clear images, and allows us to use high ISO in a low light environment.

Now you can always be prepared to take those memorable moments, because great photos come when least expected.

3.0" AMOLED display
3.0" AMOLED display
3.0" AMOLED display
AMOLED (Active-matrix Organic Light-Emitting Diode), so called a dream display because it's thinner, brighter, faster in response time, and is excellent in colour reproduction.

AMOLED reproduces incredibly clearer images than LCD (Liquid Crystal Display). With AMOLED, pictures can be viewed even in bright sunlight. AMOLED is also 3,000 times faster in its response rate than LCD, expresses sharp pictures with bright colours evenly lit with no side or backlighting, and allows us to view the display at any angle. In addition, its dynamic 10,000:1 contrast ratio provides clearer images in true colours.

Speedy and Precise Contrast AF
Always wanted to capture that fleeting moment of your child, but missed it by the time you pressed the shutter? NX10 has a fast AF speed that allows you to capture those moments just the way you want them. Samsung NX10's advanced contrast AF measures contrast data from the image sensor and directly calculates the distance, so images can be captured with higher precision.

Supersonic Dust Reduction
Supersonic Dust Reduction
Supersonic Dust Reduction
Exchangeable lens DSLR digital cameras generate dust contamination due to friction occurring during their movement, and once dust lands on the image sensor's surface, it often degrades the clarity of the images taken. Samsung NX10's supersonic dust removing function perfectly removes dust from the sensor by vibrating 60,000 times per second. No matter how often you exchange the lenses it enables you to shoot crisp and clear images

Electronic Viewfinder
Unlike optical viewfinder which only shows images reflected from the mirror with limited information, electronic viewfinder of the NX10 can convey additional OSD information on screen. Since camera settings can be applied to the preview image instantly, what you see in the electronic viewfinder will be identical to the picture you take. Samsung NX10's full time live view provides photos you desire in any composition by equalizing what is seen in reality and what is taken by the camera.

User Friendly User Interface
The most difficult part when operating an advanced digital camera is the depth of menu and complicated settings of each step. There is absolutely no need to worry with the Samsung NX10. Since the Samsung NX10 is designed to operate more easily and conveniently under the basis of a compact camera structure, it allows even beginners and compact camera users to navigate the menu faster and easier.

Perfect Portrait System
Faces have never looked better. The Perfect Portrait System automatically recognizes and adjusts the focus and exposure on the face using Face Detection, Smile Shot, Blink Detection, Self Portrait, Beauty Shot and the Red-eye Fix features that guarantee beautiful portraits, whatever the circumstance.

Picture Wizard
When you take a landscape shot after a portrait shot you can easily capture the best quality image by automatic camera settings installed for various scenes without the need for resetting functions such as contrast, sharpness, saturation, and colour expression.

Smart Auto
Smart Auto applies automatic camera settings to take the best images. Smart Auto automatically applies the best shooting conditions for various scenes such as beautiful portrait shot, picturesque landscape shots, and vivid moments of your child, to get the best possible images without additional adjustments.

Samsung NX10, HD movies in 720p resolution and H.264 advanced video compression format camera. Samsung NX10's APS-C sized super large CMOS sensor offers not only detailed clear videoclips, but also allows target objects to stand out of the picture like in a motion picture. In addition, equipped with HDMI interface for transmitting uncompressed digital data, you can enjoy watching high resolution video images on HDTV.

Recycle bin
Accidents happen. But now that shot you didn't really mean to delete is saved in the NX10's Recycle Bin. You can rest easy, because every shot is automatically stored in a temporary folder just in case you have second thoughts.

Overall a highly competent first try by Samsung in the mirrorless market, research pricing properly and you'll get brilliant value for money too.

    Picture Quality:
Terrific frankly, nice clean shots up to 800ISO suitable for your big enlargements, a little bit noisier at 1600 but still fine, 3200 maybe for emergencies only - there's a NR function you can switch on that kicks in at 3200, but if you want to get technical best thing apparantly is to shoot in RAW at 1600 and above and process to your own NR taste rather than relying on the jpeg output. I'm referencing the 18-55mm kit lens - If you use the bright & fast 30mm 2.0 lens you're less likely to stray up beyond 800 anyway. The sensor is the same as used in the (now discontinued) Samsung GX20 dslr, and Pentax models of that time - from review sites around the net it seems that the overall IQ comfortably matches entry-level DSLRs, and has a more controlled dynamic range (shadow detail, highlight clipping) than it's smaller-sensored 4/3s competitors.

    Build Quality
Excellent - professional reviews liken it to mid-range DSLRs. High quality plastics, good solid feel to it all, buttons a little mushy but nothing's cheap. Hinged doors to battery, AV connections and SDcard slot all decent. Having handled all direct competitors, this feels the most solid.

    Handling
Ergonomics of a shrunken dslr - comfortably works with left hand cupping the body and lens, right hand curled round the handle, with right thumb controlling main function buttons. Great AMOLED screen, pretty intuitive main and function menues. Having the electronic view finder (evf) and flash built in also makes it a more flexible user experience, and better value - No need to attach or pay extra for a flash (a la Samsung's own NX100) or a evf (a la Olympus).

    Ease of Use
It's more of a shrunk down dslr, rather than an upsized compact, so for a dslr user it's a doddle to get familiar with the controls and functions, less so for those trading up from a compact - I think that the Sony and Olympus rivals designed their models with compact users in mind - Samsung with the NX10(and Panasonic w the G series) have designed with DSLR users in mind. It also lacks those easy-use and fun features you get with some other models - No easy-guide "Background defocus", "Action blur" etc modes with adjustable toggles, no fun picture modes like miniaturization, vignetting etc.

    Accessories:
Small but growing range of lenses - Not as extensive a range as some of the competition right now, and the 20-50mm is just a duplicate version of the 18-55mm, gains i-function but loses OIS. Overall the range of lenses available are better value than the competitors - When shortlisting what mirrorless models you're considering, also check out how much the lenses etc are - you might be shocked by what some of the other makes are asking for their different lenses, flashes, straps and even cases!

After using Nikon,s for many Yrs I wanted a more compact package while giving me very good image quality ,I tried the Panasonic GF-1 while a fine camera lacked in certain areas for me so decided to sell .
Purchased the NX10 after playing around with it a bit in my local retailers
It felt perfect straight away, the handling is great and having the EVF makes the camera and handling complete.
The focusing is very fast and on level par with the Panasonic m4/3 cameras and miles ahead of the Olympus (sorry Olympus) ,
The amoled screen is much better in bright conditions then a normal lcd and viewing angle is great as well, the EVF while not a good as a G1 is still bright , sharp and very usable.
The sensor is brilliant and gives very good high ISO 3200 is fairly usable against 800 ISO the GF-1 I had.
The larger sensor also gives you better control of the DOF esp with the 30mm f2 lens which is a gem and very sharp indeed.
Flash is nice and powerfull for such as small camera and can be adjusted .
Shutter lag is up there with a entry level DSLR and there is no black out on the EVF when shooting cont burst ie 3 frames per second which it can keep up for ages B4 the buffer needs to clear it,s self.
I,ve not used RAW yet but Jpegs come out very nice and there are stacks of adjustments that can be made to suit your needs including fine tuning the white balance.
Basically this is a mini DSLR in it,s control and image quality and unless you need extreme speed ie Nikon D300 etc this will easily fullfill your needs this side of a mid range DSLR.
Also very good value which i suppose comes with the SAMSUNG badge.
Remember these guys were producing DSLRs in tandem with Pentax going back to 2004.
If your considering this against m4/3 - 2 Things
    AP-C sensor IE Nikon/Canon/Pentax size
Much cheaper then m4/3 all said and done.
I love it with the Pancake and fits in my Jeans at a push and in Jackets ets very well.
Well done Samsung never thought I would ever buy a Samsung camera but they gave us this and good luck to them and us !

I did a LOT of research trying to find a camera to upgrade to (from my reliable-but-dated Canon point-&-shoot). I'm not a professional, I just love to take pictures - and I wanted to take better quality photographs! It was by random chance that the Samsung NX10 caught my eye, and the more I looked into it on internet photography & camera review sites, the more I was convinced to try it for myself. As it happens, I was sly enough to mention to people that it's what I wanted and got it as a birthday present. Aha!

I've been using it now for 4 months - I bought myself extra batteries and the 50-200mm telescopic lens soon after - and it has honestly taken some outstanding photos! The quality is beyond my expectations. It's easy to use - nowhere near as complicated as it looks with all those extra buttons - but the extra DLSR features are really good! It helps to read the manual, use the camera for a few months then read it again! I'm learning a lot from using the NX10 (the best way is by 'doing'), and while I do agree that the video function is not absolutely brilliant, that's not what I got the camera for in the first place so it doesn't matter.

I'm led to believe that the Canon 550D is the best perfect ('entry-level') DSLR camera available, but frankly it's very expensive for what it is. The NX10 is excellent, (and in my humble opinion, reasonably priced). I have already recommended it to friends and strangers.
