Best value touch screen player around!, 4 Aug 2009
This review is from: Samsung P3 8GB Mulit Format MP4 Player With FM Radio (Electronics)
I've owned the 8gb Samsung YP-P3 for a few months now, only recently selling it so I could buy the 32gb version! Anyway, its a great player. The most obvious comparison is the iPod Touch, as well as the Cowon S9 and Sony X-series.
All of the aforementioned MP3 players are good, but the Samsung YP-P3 stands out for one major reason: its the cheapest! For the price you get stellar sound quality (most agree it sounds better than an iPod) great native video support (drag n drop most video files straight onto the player without conversion) plus a FM radio, Voice Recorder and Bluetooth which means you can wirelessly play music on BT speakers or BT headphones and can even sync with your phone so you can take calls on your YP-P3!
Of course the Ipod Touch & Sony X series has WiFi internet access, which is cool, but I figure I don't really need any more access to the internet, I'm on it too much as it is. But the P3 has plenty of little bells and whistles too, like some fun (but simple) games, customizable homescreen (you can move the icons and widgets around & change the background picture) downloadable themes, subway maps (including the tube!) and a little built in speaker which works great with the alarm feature. Also it has a 'haptic' touch screen (which you can switch off) which creates a small vibration when you hit a 'button' on the screen, creating a pseudo-tactile response (feels a but more like a real button than just a touch screen).
Also you don't have to use any specific software to get music or video on it (the included software which is optional to use is pretty rubbish actually) - you can use a program like Windows Media Player or just drag n drop them in. Plus its hot-swappable between PCs and Macs.
Other players have their advantages but for me the YP-P3 is simply unbeatable value. Unless you must have WiFi on your Mp3 Player, I'd have no hesitation recommending it to everyone!

For what I paid for it- I love it!, 23 May 2009
This review is from: Samsung P3 8GB Mulit Format MP4 Player With FM Radio (Electronics)
After my iPod got stolen 6 months ago, I have been haphazardly doing random searches to see if I could any mp3 that could match what I had. Of course I looked though the whole of the iPod range and the Zen Creative range, plus all of Sony mp3's and hated the lot of them. Then I saw this touch screen 8MB super-slim mp3, and bought it 10 minutes later.
I mean for the price it is, it's not half bad. It is much better looking than its predecessor the YP-P2 as it's a mixture of matt black and black metal. The logo and writing on the black are very low key and makes it look much more expensive than it really is.
For someone looking for an iPod-like mp3 with everything arranged in perfect order I wouldn't recommend it. The programme that comes with it is so easy to use as it scans your whole computer for any music file and lets you select which ones to put on. Sometimes the names get a bit jumbled up but I don't mind, I know what all my music is anyway. Suits picky people as you can skip back and forward but it doesn't follow any pattern so it will always be a new, random song even if you skip backwards. The power/hold button on the top with the voloume control is really useful, if a little sensitive at times. And the touch screen controls may not be as effortless as a Ipod Touch, but then saying that, I much prefer this mp3 as it looks so much better.
It also comes with 8 games i think it is, all of which are easy to play and loads of fun, thing like suduku and bubble wrap. The video quality playback is amazing and I show my friends the next day in lectures what they did the night before and they hate me for it.
As for the bluetooth feature, this is fantastic, I now get most of my music put on my phone from my mp3 and vice versa, so clever. And the radio too, once tuned is very good, however doesnt work without a pair of headphones.
I mean for this money you can expect brilliance but I love this mp3 and wouldn't want an iPod even if someone gave me one for free! I would say this product is more suited to teens, but really, anyone who has the patience for touchscreen :)

The best mp3 player there is. no question, 23 May 2009
This review is from: Samsung P3 8GB Mulit Format MP4 Player With FM Radio (Electronics)
WOW!!! Its amazing. The newest and most up to date firmware makes this a pleasure to use. The little rumbles from the haptic feedback are brilliant especially when scrolling through a list. The sceen is extremelly bright and clear. The smoothness of the reaction is great. FM tuner not too bad. iPlayer works fantastically with it. The sound quality is out of this world, it plays HQ flac files bluetooth is very quick at transfering, unlike the old p2, you can now have the HQ DNSe on through bluetooth headphones. It has loads of fun little widgets, an adress book, a sketch pad, it plays h.264 codec (ipod podcasts), has a really really useful little memo pad,(letters are just like texting on a phone), has a flash player, a load of fun little games, a text file viewer, a slideshow thing, a calculator, a subway map, voice record, radio record, alarm, world clock and countless more features.
Its a joy to use, if you have the vibewofer on with music, its really uncanny, theres a concert hall setting which i have found helps bring out the voice parts in music. The album art is a joy to look at (especially where it is mirrored below it), an connecting a wireless headset couldnt be easier. Once you got it registered once, you simply hit the top of the screen in most menus, play screens and everything, a selection of 4 icons comes down and you press the bluetooth symbol one and it connects for you. Eveything on its fun to look at.
I suppose the biggest downsides are the software that comes with it (its truly useless), and the battery life which is much shorter than samsungs quote when you have all the things on that you want (eg. the screen being on, the HQ sound on, playing games and so on).
But apart from that its truly fabulous. A tip is to ditch the rubbish headphones yhat come with it and get some decent ones. (I got the Sony MDR NC6's at £17 an they do sound the bis when i use them.)
I got this samsung for £145 for 16GB which at the time was the same as the ipod nano 4th generation and i got a good deal then. at this price just order it now.
