I ordered the ML-2240 from Amazon.co.uk on the 22th of Oct, and opted for the free delivery. I was very disappointed when a rcv'd notification indicated that it will be delivered between the 28th Oct - 4th Nov. In fact I was contemplating cancelling the order, as like the rest of us, I hate waiting as well. But surprisingly, at 7am on 25th Oct, I received the printer via City Link delivery, amazing that free delivery was made in 3 days.
Only disappointment with the delivery was that the packaging does not include the USB Printer cable, if I knew, I would have included it in the order..
As for the printers performance, I'm amazed.. I've printed some 800 pages of perfect quality text at amazing speed in the past 24 hrs, before I ran out of toner.. Not bad, when the toner included is only supposed to last 600 pages..
Performs like a breeze, is faster than expected, adequate memory to print bulky documents continuously, and is easy to assemble, though the instructions are not included.
Only other drawback, is that the paper tray is unable to hold more than 150-200 sheets at a go..
Nevertheless, an amazing buy, I could'nt have asked for better, after all, it's a laserjet for below GBP50/-
Just remember to include the USB Printer cable in the order!!!
The printer is reasonably good - affordable, easy to set up, quite fast, although not spectacularly better than others of the same spec I have owned. My one problem with this printer has been the difficulty of obtaining toner refills which can be quite hard to come by as the printer is a relatively new model and Samsung a relatively small player in the market. Even online retailers are largely out of stock just now and I have been waiting 10 days for an order from a company that supposedly did stock it. Bargain cartridge chains like Cartridge World are also currently unable to re-manufacture toner cartridges for this model (although they will have got round to doing it 'in six months' my local high street Cartridge World told me. Possibly a reason to buy a similar product from one of the bigger manufacturers given that the main cost of printing is the ink!
I bought this printer as a replacement for my old Canon BJC2000 which worked fine for many years. The dufference from and inkjet and a laser printer is staggering. It prints a page in a matter of seconds. The quality is very good despite having set it to the minimum. Very happy with both price and quality.
Bought this for our elderly father and he's delighted with it. It's easy to use and gives great results. It was easy to set up but would have been easier if a cable had been included or even a note to say there wasn't one.
Arrived promptly, after 3 or so days. First dissapoitment was missing USB cable, they could at least write it somewhere. The printer software was easy to install and operate, works good. The printer is quiet and fast, startup time very low. Great advantage for me is the size, it's quite small and packable. The paper tray is big enough. However, the manual feed tray (mostly used when you want to print duplex) is a bit hard to operate, sometimes have problems to feed in the paper. It took 2 sheets instead of one 2 times. After some time of usage it's fine though. Do not know how it works on other paper types, till know I used only A4 office paper. Considering the price of the printer, I think it's a great deal and perfect for simple home or student usage.
OK, know a review after several months of usage. First of all, the software for the printer could be done much better, there are some really annoying bugs (ie I have duplex by default. However, you would think that if you print just one page, it will print the page straight away. Mistake! It will first print blank page (!!!!) and your text after you put the page back to the manual feeder. So you have to always remember to turn duplex off). Secondly, the feeders are rubbish. The automatic one takes 2 pages instead of one once in 10 printing jobs, the manual 1 in 3. It's annoying and you end up with lots of misprinted sheets of paper. Also the toner started to make black maps on the paper recently. Right now, I wish I spent few more pounds on a better printer. I'm definitely going to try to return it, because I'm not satisfied at all.
It took about 5 minutes to set up this printer and install the driver software on Windows XP, and it worked first time without any problems.
I have selected the toner-saving setting, and the quality is just great; in fact, it is my wife's printer, and I have not told her that it is on the lower-quality print setting, and she has not commented, so it must be good!
I am very interested to see how many pages she gets out of the 'starter toner' that is provided. It's supposed to be 700, but I'm hoping to get the extra 30% as suggested with the current print settings.
My only criticism of this printer is that it is quite noisy when printing, but it's fine for occasional use. Having said that, I have no point of reference with regards to the amount of noise that budget printers make. In standby mode, it is silent.
