Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

High Technology meets sleek and simple design in Samsung's TV line-up for 2005.Innovative yet down to earth in their interpretation of your modern lifestyle, Samsung's sophisticated product lines in the LCD TV Range satisfy your every need both visually and technologically.

Samsung's dream is to fulfill the demand for lifelike picture quality by creating natural images with vivid color, and optimal detail and contrast. Our proprietary DNIe" technology, developed through aggressive research & development and 30 years of experience, achieves this dream by taking any signal from a conventional broadcast source (i.e., high-definition digital broadcast, DVD,PC, or game) and turning it into a stunning picture on any screen.

Using our innovative six-times Density Enhancer technology, a clearer picture with higher definition can be achieved. Samsung's algorithm multiplies the tripled horizontal sampling frequency, by the doubled vertical sampling frequency, yielding the industry's highest level of density (6 times). The resulting higher definition is a splendid achievement in state-of-the-art picture technology, creating an impressive, perfect image with vibrant natural colors.

The DNIe" Motion Optimizer takes visual data and automatically breaks it into signal and noise, adjusting and eliminating noise and blur without the slightest damage to the original signal. This guarantees the viewer a picture of astounding sharpness, whether the scene is still or moving.

Conventional contrast enhancers produce noise boosts and flickers that create unwanted visual distractions. The DNIe" Contrast Enhancer has done away with these problems through the recognition of over 1 million criteria for applying contrast. It also automatically analyzes up to 70,000 local images within a frame, treating the viewer to a picture rich in contrast, even in the tiniest details.

For each scene, the DNIe" Color Optimizer calculates the saturation of red, green, and blue in the input signal and adjusts it to shades that the human eye accepts as natural. Even a conventional process like white tone enhancement produces more striking results when used with DNIe".The result is a palette of vivid hues and pure white tones that satisfy the most discerning viewer's eye.

Conventional detail enhancers create unnatural effects by relying on artificial amplification of the input signal. In contrast, DNIe" Detail Enhancer automatically analyzes the portion to be amplified, detecting and reprocessing disturbances in order to bring the viewer startlingly sharp and lifelike images.

Adjust the picture and enjoy color that reflects your tastes. Our patented Samsung technology, My Color Control, will help you adjust the skin tone, the green grass and the blue sky to your preference without affecting the entire picture.

With Samsung's absolute understanding of the characteristics of each color and how they are reflected in the human eye, the Color Weakness Compensation Technology ensures all people--even those with color reflection weakness--are able to enjoy vibrant color on their viewing screen.

HDMI" allows for the 100% transmission of both visual and audio digital signals, ensuring perfect image and sound reproduction when connected to a PC, STB, DVD, or DTV with both digital visual and audio signals. With the built-in application of the most up-to-date HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection), all contents are protected within the unit, and compatibility with digital devices of the future is guaranteed.

Samsung TVs are equipped with DVI-I (Digital Visual Interface Integrated), which allows for the 100% transmission of visual digital signals when connected to a PC, STB, DVD, or DTV with visual digital signals. The ability to reproduce sources without any signal loss means perfect image recreation that captures every subtle nuance and exquisite detail that digital technology permits.DVI-I also guarantees compatibility with the digital devices of the future.

A Samsung LCD TV can function as a high-resolution PC monitor and a high-end TV without any sacrifice in picture quality. Outperforming PC monitors in brightness, response time, resolution, and of course, screen size, Samsung gives you the tools you need to adapt to the ever-expanding multimedia revolution.

In Samsung's 10-bit processing method, which uses 3.2 billion colors to ensure a more natural and vivid picture that is much closer to the original source image, seamless picture quality has finally been achieved.

With a smart sensor that self-detects the amount of light in the viewing environment and self-adjusts the brightness of the screen, we can now avoid the unnecessary brightness that makes eyes strained and tired. The automatic sensor also helps save energy costs by 50%.

Exquisitely attentive to picture subjects, Dynamic Contrast is a feature that facilitates the optimal reproduction of images by controlling the contrast of the main image to its surroundings in accordance to the contrast distribution of the input signal.

Samsung LCD TVs produce remarkably bright picture quality with the industry's highest brightness level at 500cd/m2.Your eyes will definitely thank you.

The higher the contrast ratio, the greater the contrast between black and white. Samsung LCD TVs possess high contrast ratios, as high as 800:1, guaranteeing a palette of perfect colors. For watching movies or videos with color-rich images, Samsung LCD TVs are the perfect choice.

Samsung TVs receive all ranges of video signals for digital TVs, 480i/480p and 720p/1080i/1080p,and display pictures in progressive mode. This unique system allows a smoother image presentation and is another reason the picture quality of Samsung TVs is superior to all others.

Left side, right side or upside-down,whatever your LCD TV's location,Samsung's solution allows you to see any display clearly due to its 170° wide-viewing angle. Horizontally and vertically, your LCD TV will always be well placed to enjoy entertainment regardless of the angle.

With a new and innovative V-line,narrow bezel design,a brave departure from the conventional shape and appearance of TVs, Samsung has once again broke new ground. Both stylish and able to encompass the technological sophistication that you have come to expect from Samsung,we truly are leading a design revolution.

Samsung engineers have achieved their ultimate goal:designing an interior TV with a hidden speaker system that uses DACS (Dual Acoustic Chamber System), a technology that computer simulates dual separate chambers for each speaker with the effect of maximizing low range sound performance and enhancing sound clarity. You have never heard anything like it.

With the set-top box already installed inside your TV, both smooth connectivity and 100% purely digital life-like images are ensured since the digital signal is not passed between machines. With this system, your TV comes ready for digital broadcasting program viewing.

With various PIP (Picture-In-Picture) modes, you can simultaneously enjoy a combination of TV and DVD movies, and images from your PC,Camcorder or games, or from any other source connected to the TV.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great TV, but dubious default settings 14 Mar 2006
    By D. Huby
This is a great TV, the picture is absolutely superb, but it took a little bit of tweaking the settings to get those results.
The TV shipped with the brightness sensor turned off in the picture settings. This meant the backlight was operating at the maximum setting and the picture was far too bright, therefore hard to watch and also emphasised the grainyness of standard-definition broadcasts. Turning the sensor on caused the brightness level to automatically drop to adjust to the lighting in the room which improved the picture dramatically.
I also found that turning off "dynamic contrast" and setting the picture profile to "standard" instead of "dynamic" produced a much more comfortable and realistic picture. I imagine the default settings are too vivid on purpose, so the unit looks good in a bright showroom next to other TVs, but for home viewing with these default settings it was near unwatchable and initially quite disappointing.
Hope this helps some other users of this otherwise superb set. Can't wait for HDTV broadcasts!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent LCD 31 Aug 2005
After some online research I decided to opt for this LCD TV. The size 26" is apparently optimum for picture resolution and quality any bigger and you apparently begin to loose both. The Samsung seems to have come out on top on many of the reviews and surveys I have read and I must admit I find it hard to disagree! The sound has been critizised in some reviews but for a TV of this size I think it is quite adequate and can easily be added to by playing through your HiFi or Surround sound system etc. but the Samsung Virtual surround sound is not bad - you also have the choice of stereo or just standard. The picture can be adjusted to a very fine degree to suit ALL your preferences. The menu seems easy to navigate and is quite logical. The remote control has all the nescessary buttons!
A point to note is when you plug it in until you set the "Autoscan" for channel programming the sound does not appear to work which was a bit worrying and expletive provoking for a while but having selected the channels the sound emerges - this is not mentioned in the handbook which does seem to cover everything else quite clearly.
To summarise although I have not seen all the LCDs on the market I am quite a perfectionist and cannot find much to complain about with this set. Hopefully it will be reliable for at least the next 2 years when no doubt there will be more televisual gadgets to tempt us !

5.0 out of 5 stars Now all I need is an XBOX 360! 5 Aug 2005
I've been chomping at the bit to get my hands on my 1st HDTV. I thought it would happen quite some time in the future but I decided to jump in early and get one set up in time for the release of XBOX 360.
It's a fantastic looking piece of kit and for the price, it's a steal! Seriously, if you're looking to take your first steps into the HD era and you don't feel like remortgaging your home to get one, then this badboy is the one you're looking for.
The picture quality is pretty awesome for standard definition dvds. I have a Pioneer DVD-545 connected via RGB scart which produces great images. Way better than anything I've seen on standard tvs.
I'm thinking of getting the Samsung DVD-HD850 which has an HDMI connector as well as proprietory technology that upscales the standard dvd images from 480i to 720p or 1080i. That's gonna be hot and a great stop-gap until Hi-Def dvd players start hitting the shelves. (Be prepared for the inevitable format wars between Toshiba's HD-DVD and Sony's Blu-Ray)
It has Freeview built in. The pictures I get are of great quailty. Analog tv by comparison, is quite poor. However this could be down to my antenna's signal strength...
Also it's important to remember that these are standard definition broadcast signals being stretched out onto an HD display.
We are also provided with a PC monitor connector which is the only way I get test HD signals currently. This can handle signals at either 1280x768 or 1360x768. The images it produces are first rate.
I've tried a few HD tests by playing WMVHD clips on it. (Check them out on [...]) I've also had fun playing various HD XBOX 360 trailers. Make sure your PC is up to the challenge though before trying to play these.

4.0 out of 5 stars Superb picture but after adjustment 5 Jun 2006
I like previous reviews can only say that the picture produced is first class!!!

As an electronics engineer I have experience of many flat screen HD ready type displays and they all suffer the same problem. They have more pixels than a standard pan and scan PAL TV and therefore look dubious on occasion. The contrast in dynamic mode (default) on the TV for the most part is cranked up to the max. Select custom mode and wind the contrast down to around 60 and crank the brightness up. This does affect the viewing angle which is obviously what the manufacturer is trying to avoid. But under normal house hold viewing is perfectly okay and hey presto. Can't wait to use those extra pixels with a HD source!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent TV 30 Sep 2006
    Verified Purchase
Apart from using this as a TV, my main reason for buying it was as a BIG PC monitor. I was concerned that at this size the resolution would be a bit grainy. It isn't. The display is excellent.

I also use it with an Xbox 360, again excellent.

My only problem was that it came with the wrong remote control and I could not tune in the digital channels. This was soon rectified.

I would recommend this TV highly.
