Excellent 720p video, not so good photos, 5 Feb 2010

The HD video recording of this camera is excellent, both in quality, definition, lightning, colour, focus and recording size. The sound is very good too, it has only one problem, it is that it turns off sound while zooming and recording at the same time, this way the mechanical sounds of the lenses moving gets out of the picture, but it makes it useless (zooming) for recording some performance, I learnt it the hard way in the concert Leonard Cohen performed in Madrid last September.
You can watch several hours of HD video at my account videosdejm at youtube, they are all recorded in my last visit to Thailand, and you can find examples of every kind of situations.
Before I selected this model I had tried all major brand compact cameras in the market with 720p video capabilities: canon, panasonic, olympus, casio, sony, and the difference was so great that I had no doubt selecting samsung IT100, I tried too samsung wb500 but the photos were quite worse.
The photos are not so good ... well, this is partly a subjective appreciation, of course, I have owned previously several Kodak pocket cameras, and I am very pleased with the colour and details Kodak cameras give to me, the pictures obtained with this camera have less vivid colours, and perhaps less sharpness too, more over the size of the best quality recording mode is extremely large for a jpg, more than 3 o 4 megabytes each, and compression is not so good as kodak with much less size files.
I miss too a sports fast action mode, and menu navigation is not very easy, to select some modes you have to make two or three concatenated actions, so it makes them of little use when you are in a hurry and want to make a good photo. Nevertheless full auto is good most times. The performance with pictures is not great with low light, images get grainy and blurred too much easily.
Perhaps I am too demanding for photos because I use besides a Canon SLR and the quality of its pictures is so superior ... but I was not so critical when I used my Kodak compact cameras before, so it must be that the quality of photos with this Samsung is really noticeably worse.
So, this camera is nearly perfect for 720p stereo video recording, it has quite a versatile viewing angle and zoom, and makes good, but not excellent, pictures.
Cheap batteries are also easy to find, they don't last to much with such a big and nice screen.
Another minus point is the lack of video editing capabilities in the camera, and no video editing software provided.

Bought it two days before hols so didn't have much time to suss it out, but it very easy to use and packed with really good features, so no worries!
Takes great pics and is ideal for holidays - lovely looking too. Love the large screen.

i love this camera,its sleek n sexy.and takes gr8 pics.i would recomend it 2 anyone...............
