Connect your iPod and iPhone for more fun

Integrating your electronic devices with each other is an important part of the home entertainment experience. That’s why the Samsung HT-C550 makes it easy to incorporate your iPhone and iPod into your home theatre system. Just set either into the provided docking cradle and you’ll be able to enjoy your favourite songs and videos — and share them with your friends and family — while charging. It’s all conveniently controlled with your home theatre remote so you don’t have to leave the couch.

5.1 channel surround sound

Turn your lounge into a true home theatre room and surround yourself with true cinematic sound. 5.1 channel surround sound lets you place speakers in each corner of the room, with the subwoofer anywhere you like. With the Samsung surround sound systems, you'll find yourself going to the movies less often… and not missing it.

Transcendent sound with Crystal Amp Pro

Finally there’s a home theatre system that values audio as much as visual. It’s the Samsung HT-C550. While typical home theatre systems rely on digital amps and tend to churn out mediocre sound, the HT-C550 utilises its own unique, patented, high-performance Crystal Amp Pro technology to create a world of unbelievable sonic clarity. It dramatically enhances sound quality through its multi-variable feedback of sound signals, transcending the average-sounding output of your typical systems.

Power Bass gives your system a big boost

Your Samsung DVD home theatre system is designed to deliver a big, better bass sound. It doesn't require any additional speakers; you can actually feel the bass sound grow more and more powerful on the same speaker system and with the same watt output.

Smart Volume technology lets you make adjustments and determine settings so that volume levels are evened out

Smart Volume levels things out

Some channels are louder than others. As if that weren’t enough, volume often varies between the programme and commercials, not to mention between action scenes and dialog within the programme. But Samsung’s Smart Volume technology lets you make adjustments and determine settings so that volume levels are evened out and you can enjoy your favourite shows, movies and sports without constantly fussing with the remote.

BD Wise

Want your standard DVD movies to look as good as Blu-ray discs do? No problem. We created BD Wise, a feature found on Samsung DVD players that, when used with an HDMI cable, automatically detects the optimal resolution for your discs and adjusts your Samsung HDTV to the perfect setting. This way you can spend more time enjoying great-looking movies and less time fiddling with settings.

Anynet+

Anynet+ is an AV network system to automatically control Samsung audio-video (AV) devices. There is no need to use different remote controls for different devices. With Anynet+ feature, all you need is one remote control for simple and convenient experience.

Control all your compatible Samsung devices with one remote control
Anynet+ delivers one-touch control for all compatible SAMSUNG audio and video devices connected via HDMI

USB Host Play with CD Ripping

The USB connection and CD Ripping features allow you to enjoy your media files whether you are at home or on the move. Digital media that you have stored on your MP3 player, camera, camcorder, or USB memory can be played through your Samsung DVD player and enjoyed on your TV, and CD audio discs can be ripped and converted to MP3 format so that you can store them on your portable media player.

DivX Playback

Wit DivX playback, you can insert DVDs and CDs that have DivX movies downloaded from your computer and watch them on your TV.

Debated to go for either 3 or 4 stars, but went for the 3...This will be my 3rd Samsung home cinema...& that is probably why the 3 stars...
They just do not last that long, in fact I'm lucky to get 2 years of use out of the systems, before they start making grinding, clunking noises in the disc drive...MUST be a Samsung common problem. Everything else is OK, the looks are fine(piano black....dust magnet!), an easy set up, sound & picture (when using an HDMI cable, just cannot be faulted).. & now with the ipod/iphone dock, which plays songs/videos through your TV & charges it, this thing is very good.
The only problem I do get is the sub woofer set up....does take some time to get it cranked up. But, when in full operation, for the money & it is a well known make, you really cannot go wrong...although I bet you I'll be buying another in a couple of years..

Watching movies on it is really good. The surround sound is brilliant especially when watching action and horror films. The speakers provide a lot of power and the upscaling DVD player does show a nice clear and sharp picture.

It looks nice, the set up was fairly easy and produces an overall good punchy sound when watching movies. However, I am a little disappointed in the ability of the speakers when I want to play music. Its not able to play music through all the speakers without compromising the audio quality. I like my music with some oomph at which it is capable of doing, but only through two speakers and the sub. If I want to play through all the speakers, it loses it bass power and music ends up sounding a bit flat. I would like to play music through all speakers with decent bass and I have not figured out if it is possible to do so through the ipod dock or aux cable.

Sometimes the audio does sound a bit boxed in, especially when playing music, whether it be CD, radio or MP3 player. I'm not sure if this is an iPhone/ iPod issue or something that the system just isn't capable of doing. Even when you make adjustments to the audio, it doesn't really have much effect on some audio tracks. Compared to other HT systems, the audio settings are a little bit limited, meaning there isn't much adjustments that can be made. However this could be because I am not as tech savvy as others in this particular area.

The USB on the DVD Player could be better. It doesn't read all media files. I have a mix of memory sticks and hard drives and unfortunately it can only read one of them and is quite selective as to what it wants to play. I personally found the DVD player a little bit big, compared to other DVD players I have at home.
