I bought this as a replacement for my PS3 as the WD I bought had stuttering issues. It was really easy to install (well I've done it half a dozen times now), and it is far quieter than my previous Hard Drives. Restoring my data was pretty quick compared to the other HDD. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase.

Does what it says on the tin. Swapped HD in my PS3, I now have 465GB instead of 37GB. Very nice, and quieter than the stock HD too.

I notice a lot of people buy this HDD plug it in and off they go. I was more like the reviewer Phil who really struggled. Fortunately I found a great review by accident for a similar HDD just the bigger Samsung 640GB SATA HDD. Its by N R Green and basically explains what you need to do to Format the HDD for PS3 (if you aren't automatically taken to the format page).

This is a copy of the important parts from Mr Greens review:
1. Back up your data in system settings to an external hard drive.
2. Turn PS3 off and remove plastic panel in left hand side, remove screw (blue screw), pull out hard drive casing, undo (4) more screws on the casing, then hard drive.
3. Insert new hard drive in casing, screw 4 screws back in, slot back in, final (blue) screw back in, plastic back on. (plenty of videos on youtube for steps 1-3)
4. Go to PS3 website and download latest PS3 software update (4.11, in my case), and save download to an external storage device ie. usb pen drive.
5. This was the important bit! open storage device with file in, create new folder titled PS3 and inside that folder another titled UPDATE (both in capitals) , then inside that put the downloaded file. (.PUP file)
6. Put pen drive in PS3 then turn on system by holding down the power button for about 5 seconds. One beep then two beeps (Be patient and wait for the 2 beeps). This takes you to a menu where you can select the bottom option 'update'. either that or it will ask you to hold down select and start buttons together. Your PS3 will now update to 4.11 from the pen drive (follow the simple on screen instructions, you don't need to connect to the internet to format the HDD).

Use as my backup drive so wanted it to be as simple and unobtrusive as possible, noise, vibration, cabling.
It is.
I bought an external case from the Amazon (http://www.amazon.co.uk/LUPO-Inch-SATA-Hard-Drive/dp/B0030Y58LY/ref=pd_ys_iyr4).
So simple.
Open the case, slot in this HDD, close case. Plug the USB lead into my PC (self powered via my USB). PC picked it up instantly. I assigned it a letter (kept it as a simple volume too).
From opening the packaging to being ready to backup my PC took less than 5 minutes. Haha the backing up took many hours, luckily that's automated once the appropriate selections are made.
It is a very very quiet drive. The case I have it in is very simple, no fancy padding.
I cannot attest for it's speed as it is connected via USB and this is slower than its native SATA and also as its connected via the cases own internal SATA/USB then that would need facroting in too.
My review is just for the way I use this drive. As a never to be touched again backup for my PC that mustn't intrude on my PC's use. so vibration, noise, failure would be bad. This is all good.
I use Samsung drives currently in 3 different PC's as I've never had one fail on me.
For this price it's an extremely good buy.

Big improvement on the original drive in my old 'fat' 80gig PS3. If you can handle a Phillips screwdriver you should be able to swap the drives around in less than 10 minutes. Redownloading your content will take considerably longer depending on your internet connection. The PS3 firmware detects you have a different drive installed and insists you repurchase the software licence if you used the PS3 back-up utility to transfer content from the old drive to the new one. A 'quick' visit to your download history in the PS store to redownload everything will fix this.

Please Note: To successfully install the new drive in your PS3 you'll need to be able to connect the PS3 controller via a USB cable/port (not via wireless) for 99.9% of PS3 owners this won't be a problem. If like me you find you have a PS3 controller that will only recognise the USB cable after first connecting to the PS3 via wireless (why me?) you'll need to borrow a PS3 controller from a friend or pick up a wired third party PS3 controller.

Im very satisfied with the new hard drive which seems to perform slightly faster than the stock 60gb model that came with the PS3. I play GT5 Alot and with spec 2 round the corner I needed the space boost. Besides the screws rounding off the ps3 hdd caddy i managed to change the drive and restore the data no problem with thanks to the 320gb Bufflo External hard drive aswell. But I did notice something a little odd. When turing the PS3 on the xmb toolbar would sometimes take a minute to appear. Then once a track had loaded on GT5 I can't do anything for a minute or so (and the HDD indicator is flashing like crazy). But given it happens rarely and the tracks load quicker. I'll overlook this for now.

Never the less this is a decent affordable upgrade!
