My wife and family are all Apple iPad users and I looked hard at numerous iPads and many other Android tablets before purchasing the Samsung Galaxy Tab S. My main use is for reading books and magazines while travelling, saving me having to carry the heavy printed copies, which I used to do very regularly. I also wanted this for occasional web browsing, reviewing photographs and watching the odd downloaded iPlayer programme.
These are the things that persuaded me to buy the Galaxy Tab S 10.5:
- thin and light but still feels solid to hold; very comfortable when using for reading
- stunning screen quality; this has to be the best tablet screen currently on the market
- format of iPad is squarer whereas this has a wider perspective, which for me is better when reading books in portrait orientation and more natural when watching videos in normal landscape mode
- Interface neat and intuitive
- takes a micro sd card up to 128gb, which works seamlessly since I have added one to the tablet
- looks great; I have the darker model which looks very striking with the bronze trim
- much better value than the equivalent iPad spec
Only a week in and I am loving using this tablet. A nice feature of the (on screen) keyboard is the positive feedback you get as you type, through a short vibration on each keystroke confirming that you have entered each character. The 8 Mp camera produces some pretty usable images with reasonable file sizes.
I also purchased the Mulbess Case Cover for £16.99 from Amazon. Very good quality and fits the Tab S like a glove, with cut-outs in all the right places to allow access to the various controls around the edge of the device. Much better value than Samsung's own covers and I would recommend taking a look at it.
Overall, really happy with my Galaxy Tab S 10.5.
Super Amoled screen with exceptionally high resolution and brightness, the screen really jumps out at you.
Superfast processor and 3gb ram.
Incredibly thin and lightweight.
Robust and well built device, no creaking with this one!
Looks much more premium than previous Galaxy Tabs and better colour options, e.g Titanium bronze.
Touchwiz skin over Android, has some relevant and useful apps such as sidesync (mirrors your galaxy smartphones screen on the tab) and S Voice which works very well now, much better than it used to be.
Microsd slot, becoming a rarity with tablets but very handy given you can buy 128gb sd cards now.
Very clever extreme power saving mode, turns the screen black and white and allows you to still use up to 6 apps whilst saving the last of your battery. This is a godsend!
MHL support to connect to the television.
8 megapixel camera with flash, not on the same level as current flagship smartphones, but possibly the best camera on a tablet so far.
That killer screen is a battery killer. To be expected I guess.
Only 16gb internal storage, 32gb as standard would be better given the premium price.Read more ›
This is very light weight and thin - it is thinner than an ipad mini - which is no mean feat. The ipad mini is 7.2mm and this is 6.6mm. Somehow though, despite its lightness and the fact it is so slimline, it still feels solid and easily handled - in my opinion they have got the dimensions of this tablet perfect.
In terms of performance, it doesn't let you down in any area. It is fast and responsive. It does what you want it to do when you want it to do it. You can be running multiple programmes and apps at a time and it doesn't falter.
The camera seems to work well, producing clear and crisp pictures. The camera is 8MP rear-facing and 2.1MP front-facing. There is also an LED flash.
This tablet is 16GB but you can use a microSD card to increase the storage which means you can add up to another 128GB. Impressive!
Basically, everything performs brilliantly, and it is an excellent purchase. I believe it gives Apple a run for their money. The only negative thing I have found is that the battery life isn't huge - but then on a much used item, running a lot of things simultaneously I guess it would be unreasonable to expect it to be.

This is a brilliant tablet but get the 32gb model. I got the 16gb for Xmas and by lunchtime I had 6gb left. I was surprised because I had only installed 5 apps so that means 9. Read morePublished 9 days ago by J. Davies
