Update Jun 2014: If you're looking into buying a large high-end Android tablet, you may want to go for the Samsung Tab S with Amoled screen instead of this Tab Pro. I'd have definitely waited for that one if I had known at the time.

Original review follows:

Let me make a quick list of pros and cons and I'll give my conclusions after that:

Pros:
- Great screen. While advertised as a 300 ppi, the pixel arrangement, known as Pentile, means that it's less sharp than what that number would indicate. In practice, it's not an issue.

- Good build. The tablet is quite small relatively to its screen size, and it's also relatively lightweight at 469g, comparable to the iPad Air. The faux leather on the back actually feels nice and provides good grip.

- Battery life. It's good enough, not quite up there with iPad standards but it'll give you about 9 or 10 hours of browsing and maybe longer than that when it comes to 720p video playback. Takes a while to charge though, due to the standard USB connection. At least finding replacement cables should not be a problem.

- Hardware buttons. I thought this would be a downside before I actually got the tablet, but it's turned out to be not the case. With a widescreen tablet designed for landscape use, you want all the available screen estate you can get. Besides, the standard Android navigation bar is clearly not optimal for large tablets either.

- SD card slot. Samsung has to be commended for insisting on including a microSD card slot on their devices, even if Google keeps reducing their usefulness on standard Android. FAT and exFAT file systems are supported, but not NTFS.

The new "Pro" series from Samsung despite the name is mostly enhancing the normal "Tab" range over previous models. The last generation were good tablets, but lagging behind a bit esp in the screen quality department.

Having used the new Pro 10.1 for a few days I can say it is a nice tablet that is well worth a look. mostly if you are after the bigger screen size, which is really probably more suited for a briefcase or business users (presentations etc), or possibly as a home tablet for media watching.

My quick summary of good and bad:

Pros:
+ Build is good with a slim profile (just under 8mm) and not as heavy as expected (bit lighter than the ipad air) at 469g
+ Runs Android 4.4 though has the usual Samsung add on bits (which some like and some don't)
+ Bezel size is about right allowing you to hold the tablet without covering the screen with fingers
+ Excellent 10.1" 2560 x 1600 (299 ppi) screen it's very clean and sharp with good viewing angles
+ Decent 8-megapixel rear camera and 2-megapixel front camera, whilst not up to the best tablets (or phones) photo quality wise they are a cut above many and pretty good detail/sharpness (8mp).

Just a quick review to advise folks, this is the second large (pricey) electronic item I have bought from a "Fulfilled by Amazon" retailer in the last month (the other being a Mac) with a decent saving applied, but neither were as listed. Both were listed as UK models on Amazon.co.uk; when both came they were Hong Kong variants. With the Mac I was lucky as Apple have a global warranty, however with this Samsung Tab PRO I could not find any clarification. Maybe I was covered, but I just did not feel confident enough to risk it - especially having problems from the start. With issues using a 64GB microSD, many Apps reverting to the system default of Chinese (Simplified) language and the Knox software refusing to work, sad to say it was returned. From now on, I really will think twice before buying from a "Fulfilled by Amazon" retailer for electronics as sadly you cannot be sure what you will get. I don't think this applies to Amazon.co.uk items as they are usually more similar to the RRP (still with a saving, mind you) so will look in the listings on the right-hand side of an items page, rather that the initial seller! You live and learn!

I don't normally post reviews but I wanted to thank TRDuk for the excellent service I have had. I ordered the tablet on 8th June and received it on 10th June, much quicker than estimated. The tablet was very well protected during transit. I am also happy to say that, unlike from a lot of suppliers, the tablet came with a UK plug.

The tablet is just as I expected, I went for the PRO version for the extra RAM and the better processor and so far it has performed flawlessly. The only reservation I have is Magazine UX, I am not familiar with this but hopefully given time I will get to like it but at the moment I am not sure.
