I bought this Samsung Ecogreen HD103SI SATA 1TB drive to replace the failing Maxtor 300GB HDD in my Thompson Sky HD box. It was reasonably priced from Amazon and it arrived quickly. It was easy to format after putting it in my Sky HD box - just unpack it and slot it in to the box drive bay, attach the two connectors and the fan cable and perform a system reset. This formats the drive to just under 1/2TB (the maximum available from the Sky HD box software), so in order to get the 1TB back, I had to remove it from the box and perform a backup, partition remove and restore using sky copy+ and a SATA USB2 drive caddy. This removes the Sky HD format limit and allows much more space for recordings. All quite easy to do. It has completely transformed my Sky HD box. Start up time is unprecedented. It's very quiet compared to the previous drive and does not produce nearly as much heat; so my box fans don't run so much! All my pixelating picture woes are gone and most importantly the box does not keep on periodically shutting down and refusing to restart. Everything the HD box does is now very much quicker, (I guess because of the faster read / write times and the larger cache of this drive). My Sky HD box now sits quietly on the side ready to leap into action! If you're thinking of, or having to replace your Thompson Sky HD drive whilst upgrading to a 1TB HDD, then this drive is an excellent choice.
