First off, a couple of confessions. This is only my second ever moby: I'm a 40 something bloke and have never quite cottoned on to mobile phone culture so my knowledge of the world is limited to say the least. I'll also add that this phone spends most of its time turned off. It's a bit more than an emergency phone and it comes out when I'm away from home but it's certainly not used as a landline replacement.

Having said that, I've been using this phone for about a year now and like it a lot. It's small, compact and easy to use. It's quite good looking (although my teenage daughters would disagree) in a sleek, shiny black sort of way and although it's not a smartphone neither does it look like a first generation brick. The screen is clear and bright and can be read well in sunlight. The buttons are also easy to use and the numbers come up on the display in very large font as you dial.

There is also a "suggested number" facility, which reads the number as you dial it and tries to predict who you might be calling. The menu system is fairly easy to follow and there is a customisable short-cuts function which also helps make things easy.

I bought a micro-SD card so that I could use this as an MP3 player and it performs that function well enough using the HF headset that comes with the phone.

The camera (1.3Mpix) is OK but if you're used to even a bog standard digicam, photos taken with the phone will look awfully pixy.

There are only a limited number of apps on the phone and no games.

The phone can be charged from your PC and you can download software to manage the phone's setup and transfer stuff to and from the SD card.

I don't know much about PAYG providers but I've had no problems with O2.

Accessories that I bought & now use
===================================
The phone's internal memory is sufficient for a few photos and a couple of songs/ringtones but if you want to expand its internal storage capacity you need to buy a microSDHC memory card. 8GB is quite sufficient for me but you may want more.

Samsung use a microUSB terminal, so you can't just any old USB/miniUSB cable that you might find lying around (and I have a drawer full of 'em). So, if you want to connect your Sammy mobile to your PC, you need to buy this ...
Micro USB Data Transfer Sync & Charger Cable
You can also charge your mobile from your PC using this cable.

Phone is ok. 22 Aug 2011

It's a cheap phone handy if you just want the basics. One frustrating thing is that when you save words for predicted text, it keeps them for a while and then deletes them so you have to keep adding. But that's something I've found with all Samsung phones.

I bought the phone because I needed a cheap one quickly, but if I had have had the cash, I would have gone with a better Sony Erricson. Samsung phones just don't seem to work as well.

Having said that, if you are looking for a cheap, no frills phone, this will do!
