The wife offered to buy me a new camera for Christmas to replace my ageing Canon. Had a good look around at the various offerings from all the "main players" but kept being drawn back to the PL200 because of the HD recording mode, the 7x Optical zoom and the 3" LCD screen. Read various reviews, mostly favourable, and decided this was the one I wanted.
When I opened it up on Christmas morning I was surprised at how small it was compared to my previous camera. I only had a Cannon point and shoot but it was like a brick compared to the Samsung. Quickly charged up the battery and gave it a whirl. Very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the images, nice and sharp with good, natural colour. Lots of shooting modes to experiment with, but in "Smart" mode it really is a doddle to use. A little bit of "hunting" from the lens in very (very) low light, but in average lighting conditions it is very quick to focus and the flash is a lot more powerful than I was expecting.
Haven't really taken a lot of pics with it, but those that I have taken that were worth printing have come out extremely well.
The video recording is a breeze and picture quality is very good. I've ordered an accessory A/V cable so that I can replay my video straight from the camera onto my telly. Shame Samsung didn't see fit to include one with the camera bearing in mine it's HD capabilities, but there you go.
All in all I'm very pleased with the Samsung. It's a smart looking little camera, and it's size makes it easily able to be slipped into a shirt/trouser pocket. The one thing I would recommend buying is a case for it though. Whilst the large LCD screen is great, it looks a little vunerable so a small case is a neccessity.
Early days, but I'd recommend it fully.
