I have just bought this camera (not from Amazon!) to replace my four year old Kodak, which despite serving me well has started to show it's age.
When I bought my Kodak, terms such as "megapixals" didn't seem to matter. However, when I first started shopping around I was dazzled by all the technical terms bandied by salesmen and websites. Basically, the higher the number megapixals and zoom, the better.
What first attracted me to the Samsung A6 was the price, it was down from £300 to £150 in my local supermarket. Another reason I purchased this was it's compatibility with SD cards - these are the same cards used in my old Kodak. A lot of the other cameras I saw seemed to have the same features but I would have needed to buy a different type of card. Still, Amazon sell large capacity memory cards, so it wouldn't have been the end of the world to have to buy another.
I noticed when turning it on the camera for the first time the camera displayed a few flashing lights and played a little tune -it was like starting up my PC.
The main difference between my old Kodak and the Samsung is the dizzying amount of features the A6 has! Voice recorder, built in video mode (though it's jerky and pretty poor quality). The zoom feature is pretty amazing, though my cat got pretty fed up with being my model.
There is only one downside I can see - battery life. Admittedly, I was playing around with the zoom and video after I'd got it out of the box, but I still got a "low battery" warning after only an hour! Pretty shocking. I am surprised that Samsung don't include rechargeables and a power cable, which is something my Kodak did four years ago! Still, at the moment I'm pleased playing with the features to worry too much about the battery life. I'll just have to get a charger and some rechargeable batteries.
Overall, a great piece of kit and highly recommended!
