This camera is very good value for money. The main reason for buying this camera was that it offered 5.0 mega pixels for a lot less money than other brands, and being a newcomer to the world of digital photography I was uneasy about spending £120 plus, without knowing if I would really get into it as a hobby. I can safely say that I have become hooked on photography and if your like me and you would prefer to test the water before leaping in and spending a fortune, you could do a lot worse than purchasing this rather charming litte digital camera.

After having a 1.3M fuji camera for about 5 years, time to upgrade. I chose the A503 as it looked durable and had movie etc. As soon as I unpacked it, the lack of lens cover looked like an acident waiting to happen. Its always getting dirty and one scratch and thats finished it. The main problem is image quality, despite being 5M, the image never looks sharp, ok the foreground looks ok, but the background always looks slightly soft, probably due to the compromise of a fixed focus lens. Also zoom in to a face and compression effects are evident. The movie function has great sound but poor image quality. Its slow to take after the shutter is pressed and repeat photo time is slow. On the plus side its easy to use, though the list of functions are pretty useless, sepia, tint etc. You can do all these on a PC and they would be better off with a better image quality. The LCD is large and clear. For the money you can get a better zoom / autofocus camera, so where is all the money going? this camera has none of these features.

This camera is so easy to use, the on/off switch doesn't stick out like the Nikon Coolpix camera (which switches itself on and off in your pocket), but is still very accessible. The Samsung menu is easy to understand, all the functions are self explanatory, and developing the pictures on the computer and printing them is a joy. I've had many good comments about the pictures from family and friends.

2nd hand but a good bargain
Pleased with this - it takes great video footage and photos out doors in particular. Shame it doesn't have an optical viewfinder.
