Looks good- Sounds good- Buy a camera, 9 Dec 2007
Like all Samsung handsets the D900i is very attractive: slim; light; shiny; etc.The instructions are straightforward and idiot proof. If you have a card reader the music transfer is super quick. But-
The Camera(supposedly 3.2 M) has an appallingly slow capture: Click- wait-wait- wait- there's my wife/son/cat- Oh No! They're outside on the balcony! And they've changed colour- my wife/son/catdog was a rich warm living human/catdog- now a cold blur! Crap. PC/ Internet/ Music interface is incomprehensible. Please avoid. My Ericsson W850i pisses on this from a great height. Try and find one now! I would gladly swap The D900i for an 850/880/910.
Rubbish.

To be honest, not that good., 29 Oct 2007
I have only received this phone today, as always, I look for the features I had on my old phone and get annoyed that they are not the same as the new one. But after that initial disappointment, I started to look for the positive features.
A 3 mega pixel camera, I bet it is almost as good as my proper camera. Well, if you like creative colour reproduction and a shutter lag that keeps you guessing guessing guessing! Then this is the camera for you! I never knew my cat was blue until I bought this. Seriously, the shutter lag is appalling, it is worse even than my original digital camera bought several years ago. My previous Nokia was much faster, and even the phone before that, an old Alcatel, was faster. In short, I don't recommend it one little bit, I award the camera zero stars.
The phone it self however has a number of nice features, an easy to read screen, for someone with near normal eyesight. Not much more to say at this point, though I will add to this later.
The software, now this takes me back a few years, I remember when I had my first phone that could synchronise with Outlook, for it too would produce this annoying message from Outlook asking you to give the software permission to access its data file. A problem that Alcatel solved on my phone, I think, 4 or more years ago. However, the synchronisation process itself is very restful, as in you have a long time to rest while it slowly chugs its way through. I think I might give it a race next time.
All in all, so far, a phone that looks good, feels Ok, it is very slim, and rather difficult for me to operate with my larger than average hands. But Samsung might as well not bother with the camera, and sell the phone a bit cheaper instead. As for their PC software, perhaps they should just make it Nokia compatible, at least then it would have some decent PC software. I have just finished deleting the duplicate entries it created when I tried to synchronise my address book with Outlook.
One really annoying feature is something that seems to afflict just about all mobile phones now, The OK button takes you to the WAP browser, which you get charged for by the second, and it cannot be reprogrammed. Appeal to the phone manufacturers of the world, we are the customers, O2, Orange Vodafone etc. merely the distributors, stop doing their bidding and listen to us for a change.
The battery life is poor, though you should note this is based upon my playing with the camera etc. in the evening. I expected it to last longer than it did though, seeing as I charged earlier the same evening.
Addendum: Had this a few days now. I have tried using the synchronisation software for my contacts. I thought this involved duplicating the address book on your PC with the one on the phone, not so. No, this one deletes some entries, duplicates others, and changes the details on others. To cap it all, the contacts on the phone has no address facility, this seems strange to me. Yes I know where regular contacts live, but that is not always the case for people I do not see very often. With my Nokia before, it was useful to look up which house number someone lived in for instance.
The camera, revisited. It has some settings that improve the photos a bit, however the shutter lag still makes it a very poor camera. 1 star now, maybe. If you don't use it much, the battery lasts much longer anyway.
5 days in:
I had to try the FM radio, but nit for very long. It detects radio stations very quickly, but maybe that is because it finds so few. The real point though is this. The head phones attach by a special connector, alright so far, the socket where the connection goes has a little protective cover, good. However, what happens to the cover when the phones are plugged in, it is then a rather flimsy piece of plastic dangling off the side, it looks to me to be very easy to accidentally break off. For instance if you were to put it in your pocket, so that you could move around, this means that really you can only used the headphones when the phone is away from anything that could break off the cover, like flat on your desk, the fact is you can get much better reception off a standard radio, or on the PC for instance, and you are free to move around and still hear the radio, or indeed, MP3s. In short, this feature is pretty useless.
Update on the software. It seems there are 2 methods of synchronising the data, one which is called synchronise, the other `manage contacts and more'. Basically never the twain shall meet! I tired them both, once you use the manage option, the synchronise will make a complete pigs breakfast of the whole thing. I solved the problem, mostly, by deleting everything on the phone, dumping the duplicates and invalid entries on the PC, and then using the synchronise. It is not too bad this way, though it still makes the occasional error. Just thought I would add this to be fair to Samsung.
All in all, it is a nice phone to use, looks good and has some nice phone type features. But it is let down by a poor camera, an annoying pre-programmed button to take you onto WAP, believe me, the number of times I have accidentally pressed this makes it extremely irritating, and the fact that the design of the headphone socket makes the phone too vulnerable to damage.
To be honest, check out the competition. Really, I mean it, this is probably the last Samsung phone I will buy.

Super sexy, Super stylish, 19 Jul 2007
This phone (if you have come from another Samsung) is excellent. It is good looking and multi-functional.
Bluetooth is quick and easy to use. The 3mp camera is very clear and the screen is super sharp.
All in all I have found no faults apart from the fact that it does feel a little flimsy compared to other makes of phone such as sony eriksson so I doubt it could with-stand a battering. However, so far mine is in one piece!
