I managed to purchase this notebook for £744.00. For this level of specification the Macbook pro would have been more than double the price.
All alloy body, very good hybrid mix of HDD with SDD makes the device start in les than 20 seconds. Without a doubt is exudes quality, Feels very luxurious to hold and use.
The key board is suberb with the back light function a true help. The track pad does take some getting used to and is not as intuitive as the Macbook at first.
I have read a review that mentions sharp corners? I have done my best to encounter such an edge but an delighted to report I find no such thing.
The way this technology speeds ahead by the time I have written this another faster notebook will have appeard, however until tomorrow this is the fastest, well built notebook for the financial outlay on the market.
I am very pleased with the purchase and would recommend this to a friend.
For the specification and size it is light not ultra book light but not their higher price either yet a suberb performance.
I have the Asus TF300T with dock as my tablet and the Samsung Galaxy Note as my phablet, with the samsung galaxy S111 for my phone I think (I hope!) I am set for a decent techno' performance. The battery life on this note book is truly outstanding and in general it lives up to the media hype it has received. I will report back as I become accustomed through further use. So far, so good and a 5 star award from me. Well done yet again Samsung. I am in danger of becoming a 'fan boy'. That would never do!

UPDATE 15 08 12. The more I use this notebook the more I appreciate its qualities. Superb being the superlative that springs to mind. Purchase with confidence.
Please note there are several different models in this range. Ensure you study the full specification prior to purchase. This is the latest version at time of this review.

This laptop really does it all, and very well. It's weakest points are probably the touchpad (temperamental but you do get used to it) and a screen with poor viewing angles (but if only one or two people viewing screen then it's acceptable) and slightly washed out colour. Set the colour configuration to 'sharp' in the easy settings and this does improve a little.

Also, gaming is good on this machine, but I wouldn't say great as it does not have a top of the line graphics card. Still, the dedicated graphics on this machine are more than adequate to run most games on at least medium settings - as an example I play EVE online a lot and can run the game easily on maxed out settings but Empire: Total War on the other hand, starts to suffer from some slight framerate issues at the same, ultra-high graphics level.

The adjustable backlit keyboard is nice, along with the silent fan mode (when you're not doing intensive tasks!). The lack of bloatware is also welcome and as for the overall looks of this beast, despite a lot of its cues taken from a certain other company, the Series 7 still retains it's own character. That power button is definitely cool.

In short, a very capable all round laptop - great looks, great for everyday tasks, good for gaming, decent battery life (when not performing intensive tasks) and still relatively portable for the power it packs. Not quite an ultrabook but more of a sleek, fully-equipped notebook.

If you want that perfect balance between power and portability with good looks, then the Samsung Series 7 Chronos has you covered.

Unless, for example, you're a media editor - save yourself £600 and get this beauty instead of a Macbook Pro. If you can't get used to the touchpad then buy an optical notebook USB mouse here from Amazon and you can still save yourself £590.

I highly recommend this as a high end portable notebook. Purchase with confidence.

I bought the laptop because my previous laptop crashed (bought in 2004 and ran out of hard drive space because I had not been housekeeping sufficiently well - a warning to all!). I haven't really tested all it's capabilities yet but have been very pleased with the laptop so far. I was able to use the laptop straight out of the box with very little set-up required from me. Easy to link to my wireless router, had basic Microsoft Office installed which would be o.k. for most uses but I have a lot of more complicated Excel files, so upgraded by buying Office 2010 from Amazon. The trial version was already on my laptop and, even though I had a boxed cd version, only needed the activation code to run the software on my laptop. Rather than buying Outlook, I downloaded Mozilla Thunderbird to deal with my email addresses and have been pleased with that set up so far, though I am learning how to improve it day by day. Large files and photos download very quickly. I have tried to switch off all unnecessary updates and tracking. My only very minor criticism is the sensitivity of the touchpad and I have been unable to work out how to change that but when I am at home, I will attach my old keyboard and mouse, which I also used for my previous laptop. I'm a touch typist so am not too worried about the backlit keyboard but should imagine it could come in very useful. The keyboard is easy to use and, in general, I'm looking forward to getting to know the laptop better. Being on the wrong side of 60 by a few years, I had wondered if my aging brain would cope with the new operating system and software, but have not had any problems so far. I would certainly recommend the laptop for speed of start-up, downloading, and ease of use. It looks good, is pretty lightweight and seems to hold its charge well, though I have not checked precise length of time.
