5.0 out of 5 stars Great Blu player by samsung 10 Aug 2008
I was a bit apprehensive about this player but after some research i thought it was the best option for me considering the price. It is future proof, it has 1.1 profile and will be updated to 2.0 sometime later this year. I did not find loading times to slow, maybe because i have a Toshiba HD DVD EP-30 player.

First movie i played was I am legend, it looked stunning on my 1080p TV along with my audio system,. I connected it up with onkyo 606, it done true hd and DTS master HD. I then played Rambo (free copy with the player), looked stunning but froze half qay. I then downloaded the software from the samsung site took about 10 mins in total and plugged in the back usb port and wahla updated new software within 10 mins. Put Rambo back in and pic looked dstunning and no more glitches.

I have to say it is a stunning discreet looking player, menu is very user friendly and the remote is the same as any new samsung devices.

I also have a PS3 in the bedroom, put this player in my living room, it is very cheap player for blu ray considering the picture and audio is quality excellent.

I would say get this product if you want an entry level blu ray player that will play all the new features now and in the future. Maybe in a couple of years get a sony blu ray at a realy great price.

5.0 out of 5 stars A good player for blu ray discs. 22 July 2008
I have had this player for three days now, and am very pleased with it so far.

Setting it up was straight forward. Video leads are provided, but not an HDMI cable, so if you want one, you'll need to order it separately.

I was slightly skeptical that blu ray would be significantly different from DVD, as I wear glasses, but I was wrong: blu ray is quite amazing. So far I've seen two films, and the clarity was /very/ impressive.

I only had one hiccup - the first time that I tried to use it, it refused to play any discs at all (I tried two blu ray discs and three DVDs). Having switched it off, I was about to contact Amazon to arrange to send it back, then wondered if it was worth another go. The second time, it was fine, and hasn't misbehaved since.

Having read the manual, I have found that there are three ways to update the firmware: by CD rom, by USB flash drive and by LAN.

One small niggle, the info panel shows the time elapsed, but not the total time for a feature/programme. I'm not sure if that's a blu ray phenomenon, or just a quirk of this particular player.

5.0 out of 5 stars So good I bought a second one 1 Aug 2008
I bought this as I wanted a Blu Ray player for my lounge and hoped that it would fit the bill.

It exceeded my expectations so much within an hour I went back online and purchased a second player for my bedroom.
Outstanding service from Amazon as I had missed the special offer of the free BluRay disc on my first order but Brian at Customer Services was good enough to sort it out.
Thanks.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sceptic to Advocate 4 Aug 2008
We got this machine as part of a bundle with a Samsung HD LCD TV, as just another gadget for my husband to play with really. I sent for a few discs, and we were really impressed with the quality of the picture. DVD isn't a patch on this believe me. My only niggle is that isn't multi region, so I can't play some of my dvd's through it, so the dvd player has had to be kept online as well. As to the ease of set up, it must be really easy, because my husband managed it with no problems whilst I got on with the ironing!

1.0 out of 5 stars Boke after 7 months 26 Sep 2009
I bought this blu-ray player in the New Year sales. It was working OK and integrated with my Samsung TV really well, until I got half way through one particular DVD and it suddenly froze. I powered off and attempted to reload, but now it simply says "Loading" on the display and goes no further, regardless of whether there is a disc in or not. Since you can't get into the menu screen you can't do a factory re-set. If you search the internet forums there are many other people with the same problem - just a very poorly built product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Sceptic pleased by performance 5 Sep 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase
I have to say, after reading the reviews of this product i was very scepitcal, with what seemed to be about a third complaining of malfuctioning players. However, deciding to take the risk knowing i could return if it was broken i placed my order. And so far i haven't regretted one second of it as i appear to be one of the lucky ones that have a fully functioning machine. The firmware was already up-to-date so needed no downloads or connection, and it automatically detected my 1080p television. The only bad point i've found so far is the lack of HDMI cable, but order at the same time and you're sorted!!!

By Paul B
Stunning Picture Quality! Picture is absolutely amazing when played on my Samsung LE40A656A with a Blu-ray disk. This player has played all other disc formats that i have put in it even DVD+R when it says that it does not play them! I can not find any faults with this player.
Cheapest price at Amazon and got a free Blu-Ray disc with it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Move over DVD here comes Bluray..... 31 July 2008
Owned this player for a few days now and very happy with it. Have watched I am Legend and Batman Begins and they both look superb. There is a very big jump in picture quality from DVD, which did surprise me as didn't think it would be massively better. Player is very easy to set-up, once plugged in via HDMI it knew that my TV was 1080i, all very clever. The load time is quick for Bluray too.
Haven't tried a DVD upscale as yet so can't comment on this, but don't think I'll be watching many DVD's from now on.
Bluray all the way from now on.
