    Reviews on this machine are split and I thought long and hard before purchasing. This is what I found;
Setup was quick and easy; the BD-C8200 scanned found and stored the channels (including HD ones), without issue. I was able to establish connection to the internet via wireless router and carry out the software update, again without any problems (just a case of finding your home network and entering the key). With the Internet connection established I downloaded the applications which took a little time as there were 17 of them, however these all installed successfully. It took me a little while to understand that to use some of the applications (i.e. those that normally require a user ID and password such as Facebook) you need, not only to initially 'one off' register them on the Samsung but also to set up a personal profile to log in with every time you access it(similar to logging on to an Xbox 360 using an individual profile.) However, once you get your head around this it is a doddle to log in and out,and the Samsung allows for multiple profiles for different members of the family (including the ability to `lock' access to an application, i.e parental control). I was particularly impressed by the YouTube app which is nicely presented and easy to navigate.
Next I tested the recording to HDD which performed well; including timed and instant record, playback and deletion, the picture quality was superb. The DVD player, being Blu Ray, performed admirably and the picture quality was impressive to say the least. The last test was access to other devices. The Samsung found my PC over the wireless network and I was able to see and play my music and video files and view pictures. The only thing I would say is that the time it took the Samsung to access some of the folders was slightly frustrating but then, I do have a lot of music files and once in, the delay was minimal.
Overall, I cannot really fault the BD C8200. Manage your expectation by understanding it can only access one facility at a time and yes it is a single tuner, and the handset is a little cluttered and not particularly intuitive. However the trade off is the price. For around £300.00 you are getting a lot of technology (including wireless access - a huge benefit), good performance and a quality picture for half the cost of, say the twin tuner Panasonic. The ability to upgrade the device over the Internet, and the HD functionality also make it fairly future-proof and so far, I have not experienced any picture freezing or machine `lock ups'. I would certainly not describe it as `worst consumer device ever'; that would be the Thomson TUTV+ DTI6300!

On paper this is an exceptional unit. A blue ray player, a media streamer, a HD Freeview receiver and an internet enabled device all wrapped up in a great looking box. Indeed no one can fault the specs.

However, in reality this unit suffers from poor build quality that is surprising for a unit costing £380 (at time of purchase).

Upon receipt of my first unit I loved the design, it's a fantastic looking bit of kit, all blue lights and cool glowing buttons. This is a very futuristic looking unit. Powering it up it's a real shame the same care hasn't been given to the ugly, unfriendly user interface. This unit has a number of different functions available, unfortunately the software designers haven't fully realised how to bring them all together with an easy to use menu system.

The much vaunted Samsun apps were also limited. Whilst YouTube worked very well I was very disappointed to find the LoveFilm service unavailable (apparently due in May so the app told me...inJuly!). A real pity given I purchased this unit for such access.

In total I have had 3 of these, each one has been returned to Amazon for a different problem.

Unit 1: Everything was fine until I watched a blu ray, then the voice channel (and only the voice channel) was really quiet. Meant you had to strain to hear the talking, which became impossible with any sort of action sequence which had loud noise coming out of the other speakers.

Called Samsung, they confirmed this must be a defective product and requested I contact Amazon, who quickly replaced the first unit for me.

Unit 2: Could now hear the voice channel and was pleased the problems had been so easily resolved. That was until around 3.30 am when I was woken by a peculiar noise coming from my living room. Getting up to investigate I find the unit to be opening and closing the disc drive. No idea why, it just opened and closed, opened and closed. Again called Samsung who attempted to help me do a reset on the unit to see if that would fix the problem, but unfortunately not and so Amazon replaced this second unit for me.

Unit 3: Well I could hear the voice and it's not woken me up in the middle of the night. So it was off to a good start! However, I then attempted to stream media from my NAS box, something the other two units had managed without any problems at all. This third unit took ages to (I assume) buffer the media, to then stop playing after playing all of 20 seconds to re-buffer. As I say, this didn't happen with the other units, I therefore assume there to be an issue with this units wifi as nothing has changed within my set up. I also found the picture (but not the sound) would cut out while watching freeview or a blu ray.

Enough was enough, I've now returned the unit to Amazon for a full refund and have instead purchased the Sony BDPS570B Blu-ray Disc Player with Built-in 3D Technology which has so far been an excellent unit with an easy to use interface and access to LoveFilm.

I contacted Samsung for an opportunity to provide a comment for this review, they failed to respond.

In short, save yourself a lot of bother and disappointment and buy a Sony instead.

Great picture quality 17 July 2010
    By netman
Just got this box over last few days with I have connected to a Series 6 Samsung TV.

Picture quality is excellent. Comparing with my Humax freesat HD box, the HD quality is easy equal if not slightly better on the Samsung, but what surprised me is the SD picture quality is way better than the Humax box AND better the built in tuner on my Series 6.

This box does only have one tuner, but I have not yet seen a twin tuner box with the same functionality for the price of this box. Some twin tuner boxes with blu-ray etc are nearly twice the price. Unless you are heavy into recording two channels at once, a single tuner is not a big problem as many TV now days have a built in tuner which you can use if you want to watch another program while recording a channel.

Setting up to record a program is easy peasy, just go to EPG guide, select program and select schedule and record, job done.

The only reason I did not give five stars is that if you recording you can not use any other function that would use the HDD at the same time for example, watch blu-ray disc (due to BD Live using a small amount of HDD space) or viewing file off the HDD. You can however use functions that don't need the HDD while recording, for example playing a music CD.

When you receive the box there is software update to be done, which is quite easy to do using the wired or wireless lan connection.

I have not had any box lock ups after software update and the box is whisper quiet cooling fan wise.
