Got fed up with my Blackberry 9800 (overrated in my opinion) and looked for a phone that I could text and call with ease but which also had smartphone capability when needed, This does the job very well. Slight downside is that the screen visuals look very basic but for the price that was to be expected. It isn't very weighty which felt a bit odd at first compared to the phones I had previously brought - again I paid 3 or 4 times as much for them. Otherwise a great little phone with very easy to use keypad - essential for me. Easy to work out what does what. You don't get many bargains but personally I feel this is one.

After six months of ownership I am trying to return this phone to Samsung for repair or replacement.

It has developed two faults: 1) it powers-off at random, 2) the SD card persistently un-mounts and rescans making the phone unusable several times every hour while this process occurs.

Faults aside, the design is poor. The power button sits proud (not recessed) of the case and therefore very easily depressed when in your pocket. This means when you take the phone out of your pocket to use it, you find it has been activated and random tasks have been performed without you consciously touching it. Someone sends you an SMS (while the phone's in your pocket) and the screen activates and the same thing happens - lots of random stuff.

Like other reviewers, the call and data signal strength is weak. People often complain of a bad quality line and the signal/data often disappears when I haven't moved, or tells me I don't have signal when I do.

Some of the in-built applications (like SMS) use the screen estate very poorly - the compose area uses half the screen, so you can only see a few lines of the previous message at any time.

The Android OS on this phone is very basic and unintuitive and general navigation is tricky because the way the screen estate has been utilised for the landscape orientation has been given very little thought.

You can get better phones for the price.

With many people these days owning Blackerry Curves, this phone in many ways is underestimated in this segment. Firstly its is really strong regardless of the plastic bezel. In the first couple of months of ownership I've managbed to almost drown the phone to death in rain water and slam onto platform at London Holborn Station. Yet, it still survives my clumsy paws. Secondly, the Android 2.3 Gingerbread software actually works really well and its all you pretty much need. The touchscreen is responsive the processor's reasonably quick and copes with day to day activities admirably even the Google Maps Navigation Beta software works up a treat for its users. However, there are some downsides some may think the keyboard a bit too fidly due to the phone's size factor and some apps aren't compatible with this device due to its screen size. However, whilst on Amazon this phone may seem to be quite dear for some. Furthermore, battey life is a mediocre affair, but not terrible.
In addition to this, we can't forget there are better budget android phones on the market too. Orange San Francisco, Acer Betouch and HTC Explorer for example. However, if you're a beginer then you be pleased to know Tesco Mobile do a fantastic package for £7.50 a month for 100 minutes, 5000 texts and 500MB data allowance. Though you may want to try before you buy in any good Tesco Extra retailer.

Pros :
+ Fast with responsive touch-screen, Durable/strong body frame, Descent camera, Nice Samsung UI on-top Android, Good speaker sound, and Excellent keyboard, also light to hold.

Cons :
+ Text on the screen for various apps do appear REALLY SMALL. example on Android Market, and the Default facebook app is hard to use on this device as you cant really zoom-in the texts can be so small and really unreadable (well not without developing pains in your eyes) also Text in browser doesn't wrap when zoomed in.

By the way, had the phone for only a week so far, so my opinions above may only be temporary.

Although it's about a year old, I don't really care because it's does exactly what I need it to. It's a great alternative to a blackberry with both a qwerty keyboard and a touch screen. It's easy to use which is always a bonus. Had a few problems with it initially, like I accidentally kept calling people, but these were all sorted out by googling to find the solutions. I would definitely recommend this phone :)

It is a more than decent phone for those who like physical keyboards. The batter life is excellent - even after almost a year since I bought it, the battery lasts for more than two full days. The camera is suprisingly good with clear pictures even in low-light conditions. The size and weight are just right for carrying around and using it for leisure and business. Of course it doesn't have the build quality - or the price - of a blackberry, but it is overall well build and doesn't feel "cheap" in any way.

For the money it costs, I would say it is an excellent choice.
