Why should seeing the whole picture be a stretch, or for that matter, a distorted facsimile of the original? With Samsung's intelligent adjustable image size function, you'll be able to enjoy images exactly as they were intended, by portraying standard sized content in its original format, on a wider screen. With Samsung's Magic Return you never have to worry about your second monitor losing content. The only downside is that the actual monitor supplied by Amazon is not a UK spec product and did not come with a UK 13 amp mains plug but rather a European 2 pin plug with no adaptor. Some of the literature inside the box is in an Eastern European language (though all the instructions do have an English section).
Just be aware that you may have to use your old mains lead to get this up and running, but otherwise an excellent product.
I've gone over mine with a fine toothed comb and the only grumble I had was that attaching the base to the monitor is a small plastic widget, which is mighty hard to fit into the monitor itself, but I got it in the end. Despite what the horror stories say, the monitor DOES tilt - it's just quite stiff, like all Samsung stuff tends to be. On the other hand, it's a good thing - you don't really want it to be flapping about, do you?
The touch sensitive controls are swish - they certainly lend it a sexy sleekness - although they are a bit of a fidget to use, but you won't be using them much.
The monitor comes with something Samsung call 'ColorMagic' which is a sort of automated high contrast setting that makes everything come out looking more saturated and warmer. It's very nice if you do a lot of CAD/CFD work, and especially so if you're a gamer, but since I do both these things but also dabble in photography I've turned mine off. Which brings me to my next point - the monitor comes out the factory at damn close to perfect 6500K calibration. That may just be mine, but it impressed me, and editing photos on it is a breeze, and I honestly don't notice any blandness or lack of vibrance when gaming, so...
The only thing I would say to potential buyers is that this model, despite being advertised as the cheaper 'no-HDMI' model, still doesn't ship with a DVI cable, so buy one. I did, and it's fantastic.Read more ›
However, the tolerance of the socket was such that the first cable I used (from an Epson printer) looked like it fitted OK but not sufficiently to power the monitor. I used one which was a slightly different shape and that worked fine.
The display is bright and clear and the monitor represents very good value for money.

This is a nice, big monitor, ideal for computing use and viewing dvds. However, the stand is rubbish, a plastic base and connecting tube. Not adjustable in any dimension. Read morePublished on 29 May 2011 by MJC Dines
