Well what can I say, an absolutely outstanding machine!!! I have never once written a review on anything but feel there is a severe lack of info available on this product and feel I need to speak up and let it be known just how good it is.

I've owned this laptop for several weeks now and certainly put it through its paces in that short time. I spent a good month looking for the ultimate gaming laptop that didn't break the bank so much, I love pc gaming but not enough to spend my life savings on one as I am a casual gamer. I looked at the obvious ones such as Alienware, but even although they have came down in price I still couldn't justify paying the price for the spec I wanted, plus I've heard bad reports on customer service etc and let's be honest the whole fancy lights and design doesn't appeal to everyone, especially a grown adult. I stumbled across samsungs range of gaming laptops after being completely unaware that they made laptops of this spec. After extensive research and debating whether or not to take the plunge, I finally plucked up the courage and hit 'buy!'

I received this product 2 days after ordering, arrived well packaged and bang on time as expected from amazon. First thing I noticed when taking the laptop out was just how flawless and beautiful the design is! The pictures do it no justice! I've heard people complain about it being a fingerprint magnet, but in the time I've owned it I've kept it out, moved it around and never felt the need to touch the glossy cover, and if it does get a fingerprint on it just wipe it off if this sort of thing bothers you!

As expected with a laptop of this spec the power brick is truly a brick, but again not a problem at all!

This laptop is externally identical and almost identical in terms of hardware to that released a few months ago, which I bought a little later and then reviewed in detail. The sole changes are a slight increase in CPU speed resulting in exchanging the 2.3GHz processor for the 3630QM 2.4GHz version and the replacement of Windows 7 Home Premium by Windows 8 Pro. There is a consequent small price increase, primarily due to the use of a higher-priced CPU. Although the slightly older version, and even the previous G7A where one version provides a 3D screen (no longer offered in the UK in later models), provide excellent platforms for Windows 7, there is a slight disappointment in this with Windows 8. I am not currently enamoured with Windows 8 - that is another story in itself - but this model does not serve it well. There are few currently available alternatives that could do any better and they are less well endowed in other areas, usually memory, storage, graphics card and screen size/quality.

The laptop is one of the fastest available and now slightly faster than it was. Designed primarily as a Gamer where it shines when turned to Turbo mode with a multi-colour keyboard backlight, it also offers a slightly slower Balanced mode that uses a plain white backlighting for the keyboard and which is more than fast enough for a demanding application such as Photoshop where the 16GB of RAM easily allows 16- and 32-bit images to be processed. A Library mode kills the backlighting and silences the usual system sounds and there is the final Green mode which uses the least power of all.

Although the touchpad allows some gestures and is apparently identical to that used with the Win7 models, it was not designed with Windows 8 in mind.

I pretty much purchased this laptop to have a new laptop that could run Windows 8 and boasted 16GB or more RAM. I mainly use apps such as Photoshop and Dreamweaver on this laptop and they load and run painlessly in comparison to my last laptop which was Windows XP with 4GB RAM and a 2.3GHz processor.

I seldom use the Turbo mode. Almost everything I do is done in the power saving mode and overall the Laptop is performing really well.

The only issue I have had so far as that the Wi-Fi connection frequently dies. I assume this only happens in the power saving mode. Switching the Laptop to Airplane mode and then back usually fixes the issue.

Apart from that, no issues whatsoever. A good purchase and good value for money in my opinion.

I was expecting it to work fine (which it did) and I also expected it to have some small cosmetic imperfections which it did not (I cannot find it at least!)

Out of the box - Windows 8, bit of a nightmare, needed to personalize a lot of factory settings to get the hardware working the way I wanted, using the machine out-of-the-box is far from optimum. Needed to figure windows 8 and all it's gestures and re-located links to make the changes, shortening of vocabulary ensued along with raise in blood pressure.

3 days installing programs needed and setting up my software. Replaced BIOS drive with Samsung 512GB 840 Pro SSD and switched off the 8GB on board SSD as a result. Added the Logitech MX Pro mouse for more accurate control and hey presto! What a machine! Handled everything I could throw at it and more. When I say everything I was really attacking the machine trying to get it to fall over, several HD video tasks, several audio tasks, a couple of HD streaming tasks whilst opening every program simultaneously in Adobe CS6, the damned thing didn't even blink. This thing is very well sorted.

I will say this, the speakers are not great they have volume but not much frequency range, the battery life is near nonexistent and I've used better Trackpads, but to believe these are negatives is to completely miss the point of this machine. This is not a laptop, it is a powerful desktop PC that conveniently folds in to a bag to be moved from one workstation to the next. It is not a prop to be used in Starbucks. The point in this thing having a battery is purely so it can be moved around an area from one plug to the next without shutting down. If your in to video editing like me you use external speakers or headphones, once plugged in to this machine the sound is phenominal.
